DiDEC's Activities in the Local Area

The Department has a natural inclination to engage with its local area, consistently promoting initiatives and activities aimed at responding to the needs and requests arising both from the province of Como and from the province of Varese. Alongside these grassroots demands, the Department also offers a steady range of cultural services designed to engage those same local communities. These services reflect the Department’s work in both teaching and scientific research, united by a shared emphasis on interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue.

DiDEC and Businesses

Over the years, DiDEC has developed numerous initiatives both with the Chamber of Commerce and with the Industrial Unions of Como and Varese. In addition, several initiatives have been launched directly with businesses, with particular reference to the following macro-areas.

  1. Companies in the tourism, hospitality and cultural sectors, with particular regard to the activities carried out within the Degree Programme in Tourism Studies. In collaboration with businesses in the hospitality sector, the Master’s programme in “International Hospitality Management (higher apprenticeship)” has also been organised in partnership with the Lombardy Region.
  2. Companies in the textile and fashion sectors, with which, starting from 2013, the first advanced training course dedicated to the legal issues of the fashion and luxury supply chain was established.
  3. Companies or business associations operating in environmental protection, land management and environmental sustainability.
  4. Companies operating in the import/export sector, for which the advanced training course in customs law and international trade is specifically designed.

Within the Department of Law, Economics and Cultures (DiDEC), a Contract Certification Commission has also been established. It carries out all certification activities and provides support for contractual autonomy as assigned by law to commissions set up pursuant to Article 76 of Legislative Decree No. 276/2003 within universities, including the certification of contracts involving, directly or indirectly, a work performance. The Commission also serves as a protected venue under Article 2113 of the Civil Code for the settlement of labour disputes and for the signing of agreements concerning the termination or modification of employment relationships. These services are available to companies and employees, also through professionals and representative associations.

Continuing Education

DiDEC has always been highly committed to Third Mission activities. In particular, regarding continuing education, the Department, through its faculty and in collaboration with its affiliated research centres, constantly organises multiple "Refresher Courses," "Advanced Training Courses," and "In-depth Lecture Series," all aimed at promoting lifelong learning.

The overall objective of these initiatives is to provide both theoretical and practical-professional knowledge, along with opportunities for significant updating and exchange, targeting a diverse audience including recent graduates, professionals such as lawyers or notaries, and other practitioners working in public or private institutions.

Collaboration with professional associations and local organisations is particularly strong, aimed at offering or jointly developing professional development initiatives.

Within the framework of continuing education, the Department offers the following courses:
