Over time, the centre's expertise has expanded from the spine to the entire musculoskeletal system. In terms of research, the main focus is on spinal and prosthetic surgery. Studies have also been carried out on basic research applied to avascular necrosis of the femoral head, chronic osteoarticular pain and related NMDAR and TRPV channels, elective orthopaedic surgery and trauma surgery in various parts of the body. In addition to research, CRIPCAL also provides training for specialist and trainee doctors through seminars, workshops and practical courses. With regard to funding, CRIPCAL's activities are mainly financed by donations from private companies.

Centro di Ricerca in Neuroscienze
The Centro di Ricerca in Neuroscienze (Research Centre in Neuroscience) at the University of Insubria was founded in 2003 with the aim of promoting research in fields related to neuroscience, and in particular the study of functional and neurodegenerative disorders of the nervous system using approaches from cellular and molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, neuropharmacology, neuroimmunology and systems biology.
The Centre also aims to be a meeting point for biomedical and clinical research groups within the University, promoting the exchange of knowledge and the creation of multidisciplinary collaborations.
An important mission of the Centre is the training of young researchers working in the laboratories affiliated with the Centre: to this end, annual meetings of the affiliated research laboratories are organised, at which young collaborators are invited to present and discuss their research activities. In addition, the Centre organises specialist seminars and informative events on neuroscientific topics, to spread knowledge of the physiological and pathological mechanisms in the nervous system, and of research into new avenues for therapeutic interventions in the field of neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Centre for Nonlinear and Complex Systems
This is the longest-running centre in the Department, predating even the University of Insubria (previously active as the University of Milan); it coordinates research on the dynamic description of the motions of non-linear and complex systems. The problems considered range from physical systems described by classical and quantum mechanics, studied from both a purely theoretical and numerical-experimental point of view, with sometimes significant applications to complex systems of interest to statistical and social sciences.

Centre for Research on Minorities (CERM)
The Centre for Research on Minorities (CERM) aims to promote and further interdisciplinary research on the sociology and sociolinguistics of minorities, fostering synergies between sociolinguistic, language teaching, sociological, historical, pedagogical-educational and legal expertise. The first of its kind, it aims to provide a comprehensive overview of minority realities, migration dynamics and the composition of communities in settlement contexts, adopting an inclusive view of minorities that emphasises their potential in terms of human capital, growth and development in different territories.
CERM's activities include training and refresher courses in the fields of non-discrimination and protection of minority languages, linguistic, social and cultural inclusion of immigrants, training in minority languages, language teaching aimed at maintaining the mother tongue and teaching Italian as a second language to learners belonging to specific minorities.
Centre for Research on Linguistic and Cultural Phenomena (CRiFLi)
The Centre promotes interdisciplinary studies and research using innovative methodologies in the field of language and historical and synchronic linguistics of European languages and languages of the Mediterranean basin, in particular English and Italian, and languages and cultures with a global impact (e.g. Latin American Spanish and Argentine culture in particular). in the field of Italian literature and modern foreign literatures, also considered in their historical and cultural relations; it also deals with issues related to multi-ethnic and multi-/inter-cultural interaction and their reflections on sociolinguistic and interlinguistic levels; it also studies communication science (medical and scientific communication in English-speaking countries in particular) in interaction with new media and new disciplinary areas and forms of artistic expression and language such as music, theatre and dance.
Centre for Research on Contemporary Art History (CRiSAC)
The Centre was established in spring 2019 as a permanent observatory, equipped with a scientific structure capable of monitoring, studying and promoting, in dialogue with Italian and foreign scholars, museums, foundations, archives, educational institutions and public and private bodies, the history of contemporary and post-modern art in the region.
Centre for Epigraphic and Documentary Research (CRED)
The Centre aims to promote theoretical and applied research, of an interdisciplinary nature and using innovative methodologies, in the study of written documents, in their broad diachronic and diatopic sense, as objects of investigation and/or as primary sources for multiple scientific disciplines (such as linguistics, epigraphy, philology, palaeography, history, archaeology, law, art, archaeometry and information technology).
Specifically, in terms of content/signifié, the main areas of research focus on the complex relationships between the “making” of the writing phenomenon and the cultural and social development of civilisations, between the definition of the value of the written document in relation to historical phenomena and socio-economic and legal structures.
In terms of expression/signifiant, the research focuses on the technical developments of writing types and material extension procedures, the variety and qualitative gradation of media, as well as the links between texts and figurative and decorative elements.
Research Centre “Intelligence in the Cosmic Context” (INCOSMICON)
