Courses Offered by DiDEC

Following the tradition of the Faculties of Law, DiDEC serves as the reference point within the University for two single-cycle Master’s degree programmes in Law, offered both at the Como and Varese campuses. These programmes feature a variety of pathways and thematic focuses, which in particular allow students to combine preparation for legal professions such as lawyer, judge and notary with additional specialisations in international-linguistic and economic-legal fields
At the same time, the presence of a significant group of economists has led to the creation and continuous enhancement of a Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Studies, naturally situated on the shores of Lake Como, thanks to the synergies the Department has built over time with local institutions, businesses, and tourism sector operators.

More recently, the Department has invested in the Master’s degree in Modern Languages for Communication and International Cooperation, which has allowed, in a unique educational perspective, the combination of the Department’s core legal-economic approach with a linguistic and cultural mediation approach.

Degree Programmes

As previously noted, DiDEC offers an educational programme covering multiple thematic areas, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary variety.
The Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Studies adopts a dynamic and multidisciplinary approach, providing students with appropriate tools in economics, law, management, sociology, culture, languages, and IT. The programme is divided into two study paths: “Tourism Management” and “Cultural Tourism”.
The single-cycle Master’s degree in Law has, in recent years, continually evolved to develop a distinctive identity, setting it clearly apart from other Law programmes in Lombardy. In addition to the legal pathway, it offers specialisations in economic and business law, as well as international-linguistic studies.
The Master’s degree in Modern Languages for Communication and International Cooperation, created in collaboration with the University of Seville, provides the opportunity to earn a double degree and is organised into two curricula: “Legal and Economic Translation” and “Linguistic, Cultural and Legal Mediation”.
The Master’s degree in Hospitality for Sustainable Tourism Development trains future managers in the hospitality sector at national and international levels, with a focus on territorial management and innovative strategies. Graduates gain the skills to design and market tourism products and services with sustainability in mind. The programme offers two specialisations: Sustainable Hospitality Management and Heritage and Cultural Tourism Management, both delivered in English.

After Graduation

DiDEC pays particular attention to post‑graduate education and to opportunities for enhancing the curricular training offered during the various degree programmes.
In addition to a first‑level Master’s and a PhD programme, described below, the Department offers advanced training courses, professional development, and continuing education, which are available throughout the academic year.

The PhD Programme is a research training course lasting at least three academic years, designed to equip students with the skills necessary to conduct high-level research. It also represents an essential step for pursuing a professional career in academia.
The programme aims to provide PhD students with research methods and cultural support that allow the integration of complementary areas of knowledge. Key features of the course are its interdisciplinarity and international orientation.

For enrolment and information for current students, please consult the dedicated page:

University Master’s programmes allow students to deepen their knowledge in specific scientific fields after completing a degree. They are also open to anyone wishing to attend for cultural enrichment, lifelong learning, or professional development. Master’s programmes are offered throughout the year.

A Specialisation School is a training programme of variable duration (from 2 to 5 years) that prepares specialists in specific professional fields.

DiDEC offers access to the Specialisation School for Legal Professions, established in 2001 by the Faculty of Law of the University of Milan and formed as a consortium, as a shared educational structure, with the former Faculty of Law of the University of Insubria (now the Department of Law, Economics and Cultures – DiDEC) and the Faculty of Law of the University of Milan-Bicocca.
This two-year Specialisation School provides training for Law graduates in preparation for admission to the judiciary examination and the practice of the professions of lawyer and notary, combining theoretical and jurisprudential study with practical activities.

Summer and Winter Schools are international advanced training courses offering in‑depth study in various scientific fields. These courses are offered throughout the year.

Other Training Opportunities

The Department helps to enrich the University’s educational offer by providing advanced training, professional development, and continuing education courses, and by organising various citizenship education initiatives each year.
In recent years, a collaboration with UNICEF has been particularly consolidated, resulting in the organisation of a “Multidisciplinary Course on Development Education” (jointly sponsored by UNICEF and the University), held biennially in Como and Varese.

In collaboration with the Lombardy Region, a “Course on Gender-Based Violence” has been organised, structured in several pathways and curricular modules. It aims to provide the tools to understand and analyse the phenomenon of gender-based violence from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The course adopts an interdisciplinary approach, considering, on one hand, the existing legal framework and the legal instruments currently available at national and supranational levels, and on the other hand, the historical and cultural causes of the phenomenon from a comparative perspective—an essential prerequisite for its prevention and mitigation, in line with the objectives of current legislation and national educational and strategic plans.
