DBSV Courses

The DBSV is solely responsible for five Degree Programmes (DPs): the Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology (BTEC), the Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences (SBIO), the Master's Degree in Biomedical Sciences (BMS), the Master's Degree in Biotechnology for the Bio-Based and Health Industry (BBHI), and the Master's Degree in Biology and Sustainability (BIOSOS).
Academic staff in the medical field also participate in the above programmes as well as in the degree programmes of the School of Medicine (Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, Sports Sciences, and Health Professions).

Regarding third-level education, medical-area faculty within the DBSV are responsible for the Specialisation Schools in Anaesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy; Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery; Forensic Medicine; Microbiology and Virology; Neurosurgery; Orthopaedics and Traumatology; and Otorhinolaryngology.
The DBSV is also the contact point for the PhD programme in Life Sciences and Biotechnology (called Biotechnology, Biosciences, and Surgical Technologies from the 29th to 32nd cycle).

Degree Programmes

The Bachelor's Degrees in Biological Sciences and Biotechnology aim to train graduates with a solid foundational knowledge of the main areas of biology and biotechnology, as well as familiarity with methods, platforms, and new technologies applicable across various research fields or bio-based production activities. Key strengths include the opportunity to complete many hours of practical laboratory work and an internship, as well as a high ratio of teaching staff to students.

The Master’s Degrees are distinguished by a close connection to the professional world (through numerous initiatives and contacts) and a strong focus on internationalisation.
The Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences is delivered entirely in English and offers a double degree with the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg.
The Master’s Degree in Biotechnology for the Bio-Based and Health Industry, taught in English, offers a double degree with the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic, and with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Wädenswil, Switzerland (Master’s Degree in Life Sciences, Specialisation in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology). In addition, an extensive network of exchanges within the EU (Erasmus+) and Switzerland (semp-Erasmus) is supported and encouraged.
