InsubriaPlay is the University of Insubria’s video portal. Powered by Panopto, it brings together recorded lectures, tutorials, webinars and multimedia content to support teaching and university services.
The University of Insubria created InsubriaPlay as its official platform for collecting, managing and promoting video content to support the University’s communications, teaching and public engagement activities.
As the University produced more multimedia content, it needed a dedicated, recognisable space to maintain quality and consistency and make published videos easier to reuse.
The project is being developed as part of the University’s Web Ecosystem coordination hub and forms an integral part of the University’s work to oversee and promote its digital content.
InsubriaPlay is part of the University’s Web Ecosystem and is designed to integrate with the University’s official website and existing digital services.
The platform helps the University:
- communicate more consistently through its videos;
- showcase materials produced by academic and administrative teams;
- provide a single point of access to the University’s multimedia content;
- ensure continuity across communications, information and digital services.
InsubriaPlay supports editorial teams across the University by making it easier to publish, organise and manage video content produced within the University.
InsubriaPlay makes it easier for users to find and watch videos by:
- making official University sources clear and easy to recognise;
- organising the available materials so they are easy to find and access;
- aligning video content with the way information is organised on the University website;
- highlighting content that supports teaching and student guidance.
The platform brings together videos from different channels, providing a more consistent and carefully managed user experience.
InsubriaPlay is the University’s official video platform, designed to provide a viewing experience that supports its educational and informational aims.
InsubriaPlay videos are free from advertising and other distractions, giving users a neutral space to focus on what they are watching.
This approach puts the focus on the content’s informational, educational and institutional value.
InsubriaPlay uses a platform designed to manage and share video content in higher education. It allows the University to publish and index videos and keep them useful over time.
The platform can generate text transcripts, lets users search within audiovisual content and integrates with the University’s official web channels. These features make the materials easier to access, use and reuse.
The choice of platform supports the goals of the University’s Web Ecosystem by helping the University share high-quality, accessible videos and integrate them into the way users find information on the official website.
InsubriaPlay content is organised into themed playlists, so users can keep up with topics that interest them, such as degree programmes, research, university services and science outreach.
For selected topics, such as university services, students and staff can follow a dedicated link and sign in with their University account to access restricted content. Users can subscribe to playlists and receive updates when new videos are published. This lets them keep up with the topics they choose, much as they would on major video platforms, within the University’s own video portal.
InsubriaPlay is designed to support a range of University activities, including:
- University communications and official information;
- teaching and outreach activities;
- academic and scientific events;
- public engagement initiatives and collaboration with local communities.
The platform helps the University organise and showcase its multimedia collection in line with its institutional aims.
Alongside official University and outreach content, InsubriaPlay has a section dedicated to services and video tutorials. It helps users and University teams make use of the University’s main technologies and platforms.
Some of the videos use digital avatars and step-by-step walkthroughs. The videos help to:
- help users find their way around;
- make digital tools and procedures easier to use;
- complement existing support channels.
This section shows how the University’s Web Ecosystem, digital services and editorial teams across the University work together to provide practical guidance and information through video.
InsubriaPlay is managed within the governance framework of the University’s Web Ecosystem, which ensures:
- editorial coordination across content;
- ongoing attention to the quality of materials and keeping them up to date;
- consistency with University guidelines;
- integration with official communication channels.
The University will continue to develop InsubriaPlay as its own needs and those of its users evolve.
