ReStart is the University of Insubria’s coaching service, designed to support students who are experiencing difficulties during their university studies.
Starting university marks a significant period of change: the transition from secondary school to a new way of studying, difficulties in managing time and workloads, failing the first few exams, or doubts about whether you have chosen the right course can lead to a loss of motivation, a sense of failure and difficulties in continuing your studies.
ReStart offers a free and confidential space in which to catch your breath, gain a better understanding of the obstacles you’ve encountered and identify strategies to tackle them.
Through one-to-one sessions and group activities, the service offers support to:
- regain motivation and confidence in your own abilities;
- improve your study methods and time management;
- cope with difficult moments and setbacks during your university studies;
- set more effective and sustainable study goals and strategies;
- recognise and make the most of personal interests, resources and potential;
- reflect on one’s course of study and future prospects;
- assess, where necessary, possible alternatives for changing direction within the University.
Experiencing difficulties with your studies does not mean you have failed. ReStart was set up to intervene before a temporary difficulty turns into a deadlock or a decision to drop out.
The service is aimed at students at the University of Insubria who are finding it difficult to settle into university life, particularly those who feel lost during their first few years.
The service may be useful, for example, to those who:
- find it difficult to organise their studies and manage their time;
- have sat one or more exams without passing and are struggling to get back on track;
- feel they have lost motivation or confidence in their abilities;
- are experiencing a period of stagnation or tend to systematically put off studying;
- no longer feel at home in their chosen degree programme and are considering changing course;
- wish to better understand their goals and plan their academic and professional future.
You do not need to be in a particularly serious situation to contact the service: ReStart is also designed for those who are noticing the first signs of difficulty and wish to tackle them promptly.
The service is free of charge and confidential.
The programme involves individual coaching sessions, tailored to the student’s specific needs. The first session is dedicated to understanding the student’s needs and identifying the main challenges and strengths to be addressed. Further sessions may follow, aimed at setting objectives, devising strategies and identifying practical steps to take.
There are also group activities, workshops, practical sessions and talks on topics such as:
- study methods and time management;
- motivation and achieving goals;
- self-efficacy and confidence in one’s own abilities;
- managing procrastination;
- resilience and strategies for coping with difficulties;
- future orientation and planning;
- options for reorienting one’s university studies.
