7 June 2023 (3:00–5:00 pm), Room S.2.5, Sant'Abbondio campus
As part of the training programme of the PhD in Law and Human Sciences, a seminar is being organised entitled "Immigrant Wanted for Irregular Work — Human Trafficking for the Purpose of Labour Exploitation".
Speakers will include Ms Caterina Boca (Solicitor), Caritas Italia, and Dr Martina Tonetti (Solicitor, PhD).
"Human trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation is the slavery of our times. Combating it is one of the most complex challenges Europe faces: on the one hand, because disparities between labour markets foster inequality; on the other, because victims are inextricably bound to their exploiters — tied to them through their work, their earnings, their food and their lodging — and this prevents them from coming forward and giving evidence. Finally, and not least, because tackling exploitation necessarily depends on coordination between states, civil society, trade unions, and both private-sector and third-sector organisations. This event therefore aims to raise everyone's awareness of an issue that is all too often perceived as remote."
