The Department of Economics has always been particularly active in Third Mission activities. Its main local stakeholders include professional associations, businesses and entrepreneurial organisations, Chambers of Commerce, cultural and scientific associations and foundations, territorial and European institutions, and public authorities at both national and EU level.
DiECO is especially engaged in third-party consultancy activities, in student placement initiatives within local institutions, in the co-design of continuing education programmes, and—within the framework of public engagement—in the dissemination and communication of knowledge on relevant and current topics addressed to a wide audience. Further initiatives are aimed at secondary school students, supporting them in making informed choices about their university studies. At the same time, in a spirit of collaboration, companies and institutions in the territory offer internships and traineeships to DiECO students.
In other cases, merit-based scholarships are made available, including those funded by the Varese Chamber of Commerce and the “Giovanni Valcavi Foundation for the University of Insubria”. With the latter, the Department has long collaborated on initiatives of shared interest and public benefit, such as the Foundation’s Annual Lecture, delivered by internationally renowned scholars and public intellectuals.
No upcoming events to report.
Collaboration with businesses is continuous and takes the form of a wide range of activities and projects.
The Department of Economics has been involved in the creation of Coelux srl (formerly Light in Light srl), a University spin-off.
Over the years, the Department has maintained and continues to maintain relationships with local, national, and international companies, as well as with the main business associations. These collaborations have led to internship opportunities for students and graduates, specific research activities on topics of mutual interest (contract research), and the participation of Department faculty in seminars and conferences. A particularly close and ongoing collaboration exists with the Varese Chamber of Commerce (CCIAA): several faculty members regularly participate in standing observatories and committees of the Chamber aimed at defining initiatives within its policy framework on key topics (Credit Observatory, Cooperative and Social Entrepreneurship Observatory). In turn, the CCIAA provides scholarships, internships, and internationalisation programmes for students enrolled in degree programmes offered by the Department.
Specific agreements have been signed with the Associations of Chartered Accountants and Labour Consultants for educational activities, including curricular ones, as well as for collaboration in organising and delivering specialised training for State Examination preparation. Department faculty also participate in State Examination boards for the qualification of chartered accountants, accounting experts, and lawyers.

The Department is involved at various levels in the dissemination and communication of knowledge and research topics on relevant and current issues to a broad audience (professionals, students, citizens, etc.).
Students are among the main stakeholders. For secondary school students, the Department supports the University in educational and informational orientation events (Open Days, inter-department school–work programmes, etc.). Other initiatives are aimed at students enrolled in degree programmes offered by the Department of Economics, with the goal of enhancing their skills and their ability to make informed choices regarding their study paths and professional opportunities. These include tutoring services, seminar series, talks by business and professional practitioners, support in identifying and carrying out internships (curricular and extra-curricular for placement purposes) and professional traineeships, as well as job orientation seminars and the “International Practicum” project, an innovative programme on international entrepreneurship carried out in partnership with foreign universities.
The Department of Economics participates in the University initiative “Researchers’ Night”, promotes media events, and maintains ongoing relationships with local and national media, as well as a presence on major social networks, in order to increase the visibility of its activities and their dissemination to an ever wider audience.
The Department also actively participates in the Green School project, coordinated by the Province of Varese, aimed at supporting, certifying, and promoting sustainable behaviours in schools of all levels in the province of Varese, with the goal of reducing the ecological footprint of school institutions.
Faculty members and research centres affiliated with the Department of Economics have always been particularly active in initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration with professional associations, institutions (Chambers of Commerce, municipalities, etc.), public authorities, businesses and their associations, with the goal of transferring knowledge both to professionals already active in the labour market and to individuals engaged in traineeship and professional training pathways. This includes the co-organisation of and participation in training courses promoted by various national and international organisations, as well as teaching activities carried out in preparation courses for State Examinations organised by professional bodies.
