War has accompanied human history, spanning eras and civilisations, and continues to challenge our ability to build relationships based on peaceful coexistence. But is armed conflict an inevitable consequence of human nature, or is it the result of historical, cultural and social conditions that can be transformed? Reflecting on the origins of war also means questioning the possibilities for peace and the role that human beings can play in building it.
These questions provide the starting point for “Fare pace con il mondo. Nella radicale complessità del reale” (Making Peace with the World: In the Radical Complexity of Reality), a series of events promoted by the City of Como and the University of Insubria, in collaboration with the Il Paguro Cultural Association.
The opening event will take place on Friday, 16 October, at 5.30 pm in the Aula Magna of the University's Sant'Abbondio campus in Como, featuring Salvatore Natoli, a scholar of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
Entitled “Notes on the Anthropology of War”, the lecture will offer a philosophical reflection on the roots of warfare and the relationship between war and the human condition. The event will provide an opportunity to explore one of the most complex issues in both history and contemporary society, looking beyond individual conflicts to examine the behaviours, dynamics and representations that shape the experience of war.
The event marks the beginning of a series of six lectures running until 20 November, exploring the meaning of peace from philosophical, economic, legal, environmental and technological perspectives.
Participant registration will open at 5 pm, and the lecture will begin at 5.30 pm.
