Pre-enrollment procedures for non UE international students

To fill in the online “pre-enrollment application” candidates must access the UNIVERSITALY portal.
The subsequent pre-enrollment phases, necessary to obtain a VISA, will be completed at the relevant Diplomatic seats (Consulate/Embassy).
Students are allowed to submit their pre-enrollment application until the 15th of July 2024.
Exceptions:

  • Numerus clausus courses: deadline and terms are specified in the competition notice.
  • Non-single cycle Master Degree courses (two-year degrees): deadline and terms are determined by each Department.

THREE-YEARS DEGREES AND SINGLE-CYCLE MASTER DEGREES

Documents to be presented to the Consulate/Embassy

  1. original copy of final secondary education qualification, obtained at least after a 12-year study period, or a fully legal substitute certificate; 
  2. certificate declaring the passing grade of a specific academic exam eventually required to enter the University system in the Country of origin;
  3. two photographs (one duly authenticated by the Italian Consulate/Embassy located in the Country of origin);
  4. a summary of the pre-enrolment request as validated by the university.

Documents usually requested by Higher Education Institutions: 

  1. original copy (or certified copy) of final secondary education qualification, obtained at least after a 12-year study period, or a fully legal substitute certificate; such qualification must be accompanied by a declaration/statement issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA*), or ARDI** Statement of Correspondence (only for the 55 signatories’ countries of the Lisbon Recognition Convention) or by a Declaration of value (Dichiarazione di Valore);
  2. certificate declaring the passing grade of a specific academic exam eventually required to enter the University system in the Country of origin;
  3. the translation of the documents above listed, points a) and b);
  4. any further documents requested by the University, also to verify the authenticity of the foreign qualification.

NON-SINGLE CYCLE MASTER DEGREES (TWO-YEAR DEGREES)

Documents to be presented to the Consulate/Embassy

  1. an academic qualification obtained in a University Institution or post-secondary qualification obtained in a non-university HE Institution which allows students to proceed locally with further studies (next level of studies at University Institutions);
  2. a certificate issued by the competent University listing the exams successfully passed, as well as a detailed programme for each and any subject. For every University, students can double-check the number of places available in each degree course and if/for which foreign languages the certificate’s translation is not mandatory. Post-secondary studies (exams and credits) already obtained can be certified through the Diploma Supplement, where available;
  3. two photographs (one duly authenticated by the Italian Consulate/Embassy located in the Country of origin);
  4. the summary of the pre-enrolment request as validated by the University.

Documents usually requested by HEIs

  1. an academic qualification obtained in a HEI allowing students to access the next level of academic studies in the Country of origin; such qualification must be accompanied by a declaration/statement issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA*), or ARDI** Statement of Correspondence (only for the 55 signatories’ countries of the Lisbon Recognition Convention) or by a Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore);
  2. a certificate issued by the competent University listing the exams successfully passed, as well as a detailed programme for each and any subject; the study plan can be certified through the Diploma Supplement, where available;
  3. the translation of the documents above listed, points a) and b) when needed;
  4. any further documents requested by the University, also to verify the authenticity of the foreign qualification.

CIMEA Statement of Comparability and Verification will be refunded once the student is regularly enrolled.

HEIs must verify the prospective students’ linguistic ability. Each institution therefore organises a test of proficiency in the Italian language, mandatory for all the bachelor and long single-cycle master degree courses, but for the cases listed in the paragraph below. Those who do not pass the language test cannot be admitted to further competitive or aptitude tests, if any. As to non-single-cycle degree courses HEIs can autonomously decide whether to organize the Italian language test.

The first Italian proficiency test will be carried out online via Microsoft Teams on the 19th of June 2024. 
Another Italian proficiency test will be carried out on the 24th of July 2024.

Registration procedure
After the submission of the pre-enrollment application through the Universitaly portal, the International Relations Office will write an email to invite each student to the session (on a specific day/time agreed upon with the Commission) via Microsoft Teams.

Type and contents of the test
The test consists of a 20-minute interview on general topics chosen randomly by the Commission. The results will be communicated to the students via e-mail. 

Aptitude test:
The Academic Senate deliberation dated 14/03/2007 has also determined not to require candidates from Countries where the university registration is carried out with the number clausus system to take any further aptitude test if the degree course they have chosen has free access.

The following type of candidates are exempted from taking the Italian language test:

  1. students who have obtained a certificate of proficiency in the Italian language with a minimum B2 level grade of the Council of Europe, awarded following the CLIQ (Italian Quality Language Certification) quality system, that includes the current certification institutions (University for Foreigners of Perugia, University for Foreigners of Siena, Rome Tre University and the Dante Alighieri Society) as well as the University for Foreigners "Dante Alighieri" of Reggio Calabria, also in affiliation with the Italian Institutes of Culture abroad or any other accredited institutions. Such certifications may also be obtained in the country of origin, inside approved centres abroad; 
  2. students having a final 4- or 5-year senior secondary school diploma awarded by Italian State schools or recognised schools abroad;
  3. students having a final leaving qualification issued from a secondary School as listed in Attachment 2;
  4. students having a Lower Secondary School final qualification obtained in Argentina certifying the attendance of a study course that includes a 5 year-min. Italian language teaching, according to Law no. 210 of 7.6.1999 (Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 152 dated 1.7.1999);
  5. students who have obtained an Italian Language and Culture Diploma at the Universities for Foreigners of Perugia and Siena;
  6. students who have obtained a certificate of proficiency in the Italian language with a C1 or C2 level grade of the Council of Europe, awarded following the CLIQ (Italian Quality Language Certification) quality system, that includes the current certification institutions (University for Foreigners of Perugia, University for Foreigners of Siena, Rome Tre University and the Dante Alighieri Society) as well as the University for Foreigners "Dante Alighieri" of Reggio Calabria, also in affiliation with the Italian Institutes of Culture abroad or any other accredited institutions. Such certifications may also be obtained in the country of origin, inside approved centres abroad;
  7. students enrolling to a Master degree course (should the University autonomously require the test) having the qualifications listed in the previous numbers 3) and 4).

The Students Office will check and verify the documentation as well as its authenticity, if it does meet the requirements the candidate will be exempted from the test. 

In the event that the documentation does not meet the above-mentioned requirements and/or requires a particular assessment, it will be submitted to the commission in charge of the Italian language test that will decide as to the exemption from the test.

  • Type D entry VISA, issued for study/university purposes.
  • Within 8 days from the entrance in Italy, candidates must request a residence permit for study reasons to the competent police headquarters.
  • Application to the Post office using the appropriate electronic residence permit issue kit
  • SMS convocation and registered letter both received from the police headquarters as to the residence permit’s issue. 

NOTE: The residence permit application receipt issued by the Post Office is equivalent to the receipt issued by the Police Headquarters.

Deadline to submit the documents required: November 29th, 2024

THREE-YEARS DEGREES AND LONG SINGLE-CYCLE MASTER DEGREES:​

  1. original copy (or certified copy) of final secondary education qualification, obtained at least after a 12-year study period, or a fully legal substitute certificate; such qualification must be accompanied by a declaration/statement issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA), or ARDI Statement of Correspondence (only for the 55 signatories’ countries of the Lisbon Recognition Convention) or by a Declaration of value (Dichiarazione di Valore);
  2. certificate declaring the passing grade of a specific academic exam eventually required to enter the University system in the Country of origin;
  3. the translation of the documents above listed, points a) and b);
  4. any further documents requested by the University, also to verify the authenticity of the foreign qualification.

NON SINGLE CYCLE (TWO-YEAR) MASTER DEGREES

  1. an academic qualification obtained in a HEI allowing students to access to next level of academic studies in the Country of origin; depending on the Higher Education institution; such qualification must be accompanied by a declaration/statement issued by the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA), or ARDI Statement of Correspondence (only for the 55 signatories’ countries of the Lisbon Recognition Convention) or by a Declaration of value (Dichiarazione di Valore);
  2. a certificate issued by the competent University listing the exams successfully passed, as well as a detailed programme for each and any subject; the study plan can be certified through the Diploma Supplement, where available;
  3. the translation of the documents above listed, points a) and b) when needed;
  4. any further documents requested by the University, also with the purpose of verifying the authenticity of the foreign qualification.

TRANSLATION: All documents issued in a foreign language, with the exception of the Diploma Supplement, must be accompanied by:

  1. Official translation into Italian (please refer to the Students Office as to study courses for which the documentation can be delivered in languages ​​other than Italian).
  2. Consular legalization (or Apostille stamp for the countries adhering to the Aja’s convention).
  3. "Value Declaration" issued by the Italian seat (Embassy/Consulte) in the Country of origin.

CIMEA Statement of Comparability and Verification will be refunded once the student is regularly enrolled.

Students who have passed the Italian language test must enroll in accordance with the terms and conditions set for all students (administrative deadlines).

Students passing the Italian language test can take the admission test required by the each competition notice for matriculation to programmed access courses (in Italian).

Within the deadlines fixed to access the programmed courses nationally and after the publication of the places still available, students who have not classified in a useful ranking position may present a single request for the:

  1. admission to another degree course at the same institution;
  2. redeployment, either for the same or for another degree course, at a different institution.

Candidates must present to the Students Office via InfoStudenti a b) type request both to the Rector of the University they have chosen and to the Rector of the University where the admission exam was taken. Candidates who do not pass the tests or cannot be admitted to another course or redeployed to a different institution, must leave Italy no later than the expiry date stated in their VISA/residency permit for Studies, unless they have obtained a further residency document allowing them to legally stay beyond that date.
