By a resolution of its Board of Directors on 27 May 2025, the University of Insubria formally approved ‘Il Non Decalogo’, its nine-point guide to the appropriate use of artificial intelligence at the University. The guide sets out the principles for the ethical, informed and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies.
Prepared by the working group led by Davide Tosi, the Rector’s Delegate for Artificial Intelligence, the document provides an overarching framework for the use of AI in teaching, research, knowledge exchange and administration. It is the first step towards developing specific guidelines for the University’s different areas of activity.
Approved with the endorsement of the Data Protection Officer, the guide draws on the principles of the EU AI Act and the University of Insubria’s Code of Ethics. It aims to ensure that AI is adopted in a way that upholds academic values, protects privacy and promotes transparency.
The nine points cover key topics including:
- the considered, informed and sustainable use of AI;
- risk management, bias and cyber security;
- disclosure and traceability of AI use in academic activities;
- respect for intellectual property and compliance with data protection legislation;
- promoting training and digital literacy across the university community;
- supporting the responsible adoption of AI in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
The University of Insubria is committed to promoting a culture of informed AI use, grounded in expertise, human review and social responsibility. It aims to make the most of the potential of these technologies for innovation while upholding academic ethics.
