Climate change, the transformation of landscapes and the growing pressure on natural resources are making it increasingly clear how closely the well-being of communities is linked to environmental balance. Rethinking the relationship between human beings and nature means questioning development models, the ways in which space is used, and the responsibilities associated with individual and collective choices. From this perspective, peace also takes on an ecological dimension, connected to the possibility of building more balanced relationships with the environment.

This will be the central theme of the fifth event in “Fare pace con il mondo. Nella radicale complessità del reale” (Making Peace with the World: In the Radical Complexity of Reality), a series of lectures promoted by the City of Como and the University of Insubria, in collaboration with the Il Paguro Cultural Association.

On Friday, 13 November, at 5.30 pm, Paolo Vimercati, a scholar of Territorial Strategies at Oxford Brookes University, will deliver a lecture entitled “In Search of Balance: Rethinking the Relationship Between People, Things and Nature” in the Aula Magna of the University's Sant'Abbondio campus in Como.

The lecture will encourage reflection on the relationships between society, territory and the natural world, offering an understanding of peace that extends beyond human relationships to include the ways in which communities inhabit and transform their environment.

The discussion will focus on the search for new forms of balance between people's needs, the characteristics of places and natural dynamics, addressing an issue of growing importance in contemporary debates on sustainability.

The lecture will further broaden the interdisciplinary scope of the series by connecting the theme of peace with environmental responsibility and the conditions necessary for sustainable coexistence.

The event will take place at the University of Insubria, Via Sant'Abbondio 12, Como. Participant registration will open at 5 pm, and the lecture will begin at 5.30 pm.
