Twenty-eight medals for CUS Insubria at the National University Canoeing and Rowing Championships

Twenty-three gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals: this is the final tally for CUS Insubria at the National University Canoeing and Rowing Championships, held on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September in Sabaudia, on Lake Paola. It was an outstanding participation in terms of results, with a total of twenty-eight podium finishes across the various individual and crew events.

The event, organised by FederCUSI in collaboration with the Italian Rowing Federation and the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation, brought together student-athletes from universities across Italy to compete for national university titles.

CUS Insubria began collecting medals from the opening day, Saturday 26 September, finishing the day with thirteen gold medals and one bronze. Edoardo Rocchi, Lorenzo Cracco, Loris Piscia and Federico Martinoia, with Ilaria Colombo as coxswain, took gold in the Senior Men’s Coxed Four. Victory also went to Vittoria Calabrese and Luigi Aloe in the Senior Mixed Double Sculls, Alessandro Timpanaro and Francesco Emanuele Graffione in the Senior Men’s Pair, and Davide Todeschini and Leonardo Salerno in the Senior Men’s Double Sculls.

Further gold medals were won by Viola Della Bella, Aurora Spirito, Marta Ravizza and Emma Tosi in the Senior Women’s Quadruple Sculls, Luigi Aloe in the Senior Men’s Single Sculls, Melissa Schincariol and Giulia Grandi in the Senior Women’s Double Sculls, and Alizee Ribolzi in the Senior Women’s Single Sculls.

First place also went to Andrea Frigo, Marco Frigo, Luca Borgonovo and Giovanni Borgonovo in the Senior Men’s Quadruple Sculls, and to Viola Della Bella, Aurora Spirito, Davide Todeschini and Leonardo Salerno in the Senior Mixed Quadruple Sculls. In the Senior Women’s Pair, Sara Borghi and Vittoria Calabrese won gold, while Emma Tosi and Marta Ravizza claimed bronze.

The opening day concluded with two more victories in the relay events. Giovanni Borgonovo and Luca Borgonovo won the Senior Men’s Double Sculls Relay, while Francesco Emanuele Graffione, Federico Martinoia, Edoardo Rocchi, Alessandro Timpanaro, Loris Piscia, Lorenzo Cracco, Andrea Frigo and Marco Frigo, with Ilaria Colombo as coxswain, secured gold in the Senior Men’s Eight Relay.

CUS Insubria returned to the podium from the opening races on Sunday 27 September. Alizee Ribolzi claimed another gold medal in the Senior Women’s Single Sculls, while Melissa Schincariol and Giulia Grandi won the Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls.

Two silver medals also followed. The first came in the Senior Men’s Coxed Four with Edoardo Rocchi, Lorenzo Cracco, Loris Piscia and Federico Martinoia, once again with Ilaria Colombo as coxswain. The second was won by Davide Todeschini and Luigi Aloe in the Senior Men’s Double Sculls. In the Senior Women’s Quadruple Sculls, Viola Della Bella, Sara Borghi, Aurora Spirito and Vittoria Calabrese took the title.

The day continued with gold medals for Alessandro Timpanaro and Francesco Emanuele Graffione in the Senior Men’s Pair and Leonardo Salerno in the Senior Men’s Single Sculls. In the Senior Mixed Quadruple Sculls, first place went to Giovanni Borgonovo, Luca Borgonovo, Melissa Schincariol and Giulia Grandi, while Andrea Frigo, Marco Frigo, Emma Tosi and Marta Ravizza won silver.

In the Senior Women’s Pair, Sara Borghi and Aurora Spirito won gold, while Emma Tosi and Marta Ravizza took bronze. Two more titles were secured by Davide Todeschini, Luigi Aloe, Luca Borgonovo and Giovanni Borgonovo in the Senior Men’s Quadruple Sculls, and by Viola Della Bella and Alizee Ribolzi in the Senior Women’s Double Sculls.

The competition concluded with another gold medal for the Senior Men’s Eight, crewed by Francesco Emanuele Graffione, Federico Martinoia, Edoardo Rocchi, Alessandro Timpanaro, Loris Piscia, Marco Frigo, Andrea Frigo and Lorenzo Cracco, with Ilaria Colombo as coxswain.
