Gender-based violence in schools: University of Insubria presents new operational protocol for managing cases

This morning, Wednesday 23 September, the Aula Magna of the University of Insubria in Varese hosted a meeting dedicated to the presentation of the «Operational Protocol for Managing Cases of Gender-Based Violence in Schools».

The event brought together representatives of institutions, schools and universities to explore the role of the school community in preventing and managing situations of gender-based violence. The Protocol is the result of collaboration between the Varese Prefecture, the Varese Territorial School Office, the University of Insubria and LIUC – Cattaneo University.

The meeting focused on recognising warning signs, intervention procedures and cooperation among schools, families, local services and institutions. The document is intended to provide school principals, teachers and educational staff with a shared tool for dealing with situations that require particular attention and expertise.

Students also played a central role in the event. Students from ITC Einaudi in Varese presented a project focused on prevention, with contributions from teachers Maria Rosaria Maggio and Angela Carbone. Silvia Nanni and Leila Mazzotta Natale then presented the Operational Protocol.

The morning concluded with contributions from students of Liceo Frattini in Varese, representing the schools belonging to the provincial network «Questo non è amore» (“This is not love”), together with teachers Alessandra Frattini, Mariagiovanna Micali and Silvia Bottazzini.

The proceedings opened with greetings from Varese Prefect Salvatore Pasquariello; Giuseppe Carcano, head of the Varese Territorial School Office; Paola Biavaschi, University of Insubria Delegate for Gender Equality and Equal Opportunities; Eliana Alessandra Minelli, LIUC – Cattaneo University Delegate of the Rector for Next Generation and Inclusion; and Roberto Solbiati and Roberto Scazzosi, respectively General Manager and President of BCC Busto Garolfo and Buguggiate.

The meeting was part of an ongoing collaboration between institutions and the school community, with the aim of strengthening, starting from schools, a culture of prevention, respect and gender equality.
