To mark the 80th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Italy, the University Library System of the University of Insubria presents the recital «Mothers of the Republic», produced and performed by the Compagnia dei Gelosi.
The event will take place on Thursday, 1 October at 5.30 pm in the Aula Magna of the Sant’Abbondio Cloister in Como.
The performance brings to life the stories of women who endured the horrors of war and took part in the Resistance, from Cleonice Tomasetti to Tina Anselmi, from Laura Bianchini to Teresa Mattei, as well as the female partisan couriers of Ferrara. Women whose commitment helped shape the values enshrined in the Italian Constitution.
The event will open with an introduction by Professor Giorgio Grasso, Full Professor of Constitutional and Public Law in the Department of Law, Economics and Cultures.
The staged reading is free and open to the public.
