Biotech Lab: a day at Insubria University to discover the world of biotechnology as part of Biotech Week

An event dedicated to upper secondary school pupils and open to all, organised by the University of Insubria as part of European Biotech Week 2026: it is ‘Insubria Biotech Lab: discover the world of biotechnology!’, scheduled for Wednesday 30 September at 9.00 am in Varese.

The event will take place in the Granero-Porati Lecture Theatre, at Via Dunant 3, and offers an exploration of research, applications and career prospects in the field of biotechnology.

During the morning, lecturers and researchers from the Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences will outline the role of biotechnology in the sectors of health, agriculture, environmental sustainability, the circular economy and the fight against antibiotic resistance. The programme includes presentations on the bioeconomy and red, green and microbial biotechnologies, as well as hands-on experiences in the University’s teaching laboratories.

“Biotechnology is now one of the most dynamic and strategic sectors at an international level and plays an increasingly important role in the development of innovative solutions for health, the environment and sustainable production,” explains Professor Elena Bossi, chair of the Biotechnology degree programme. The sector also offers career prospects in numerous fields, ranging from the pharmaceutical and agri-food industries to businesses in the bioeconomy, as well as research laboratories and healthcare facilities.”

The event will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the University of Insubria’s range of courses, explore study programmes in greater depth and discover the career opportunities available within the sector.
