The Department of Law, Economics and Culture is hosting the AISPc’s annual conference on the bringing of civil claims in criminal proceedings

On Friday 18 September, the University of Insubria in Como will host the annual conference of the Italian Association of Scholars of Civil Procedure (AISPC), a major academic event bringing together scholars in the field from across Italy and beyond. The conference, entitled ‘The Exercise of Civil Action in Criminal Proceedings’, will take place at the Chiostro di Sant’Abbondio and is organised by the AISPc in collaboration with the University and the Department of Law, Economics and Culture.

The conference provides an opportunity for discussion and in-depth academic analysis of the relationship between civil action and criminal proceedings, examined from different perspectives through presentations by lecturers and experts in civil and criminal procedural law from various Italian and foreign universities.

The proceedings begin at 9.15 am with the opening ceremony and official addresses. At 10.00, Francesca Ruggieri, Professor of Criminal Procedural Law at the University of Insubria, will give a presentation on ‘The bringing of civil claims in criminal proceedings’. This will be followed at 10.45 by Mauro Bove, Professor of Civil Procedural Law at the University of Perugia, who will explore ‘The subject matter of civil claims in criminal proceedings’.

After the break, at 12.00, Alessio Bonafine, associate professor of Civil Procedural Law at the LUM Giuseppe Degennaro University, will speak on ‘The transfer of civil claims in criminal proceedings’. The proceedings resume in the afternoon at 3.00 pm with Francesco De Santis, associate professor of Civil Procedural Law at the University of Naples Federico II, who will address the topic of ‘The prerequisites and effects of a final criminal judgement in civil proceedings’.

The comparative perspective will be provided by Goran Mazzucchelli, lecturer in Swiss Criminal and Procedural Law at the University of Lucerne, who will present an in-depth analysis of the Swiss system at 3.45 pm. A debate is scheduled for 4.30 pm, whilst the event is due to conclude at 5.30 pm.

The event is organised with the support of the Centre for Research in Swiss Law, the Centre for Studies on Restorative Justice and Mediation, the Como Bar Association, the Como Civil Chamber and the Department of Economics at the University of Insubria.
