A conference in memory of Giuseppe Armocida, historian of medicine and a leading figure in the local community, on 26 September at Villa Recalcati

A morning to remember Giuseppe Armocida through the people, institutions and professional fields that were part of his life and career. An opportunity for remembrance and reflection on a figure who left a lasting mark on the Varese area, both through his professional authority and through his human and interpersonal qualities.

This is the spirit of the conference “In memory of Giuseppe Armocida”, taking place on Saturday 26 September at 9:30 a.m. in the Luigi Ambrosoli Hall at Villa Recalcati. The event is promoted by the Province of Varese as part of the celebrations marking the Institution’s centenary.

The conference stems from the desire to collect and share the memories of those who knew Armocida and had the opportunity to work with him, collaborate on his activities or be close to him throughout his life. His memory will therefore be entrusted to colleagues and collaborators, as well as to friends and those who knew him on a more personal level.

The morning will feature a series of contributions exploring the different aspects of Giuseppe Armocida’s life and career. Following the institutional greetings from the President of the Province of Varese Marco Magrini, the Mayor of Varese Davide Galimberti, and the Rector of the University of Insubria Maria Pierro, speakers will recall his relationship with the University of Insubria, with contributions from Giovanni Bernardini, Renzo Dionigi, Ilaria Gorini and Mario Tavani, as well as his involvement with public administration, through a contribution by Serena Contini.

The programme will continue with reflections on his relationship with the Varese Historical Society, presented by Marco Tamborini; with Medicine, through contributions from Giovanna Beretta and Stefania Zeroli; and with the Italian Society for the History of Medicine, with Renato Soma and Marco Zanobio. The programme will explore different areas of Armocida’s life and work, with the aim of conveying both the breadth of his professional achievements and the depth of the human relationships he built throughout his life. The morning will conclude with a brief address by Monika Armocida.

The conference will be moderated by President of the Province of Varese Marco Magrini.

The event is part of the programme of initiatives marking the Centenary of the Province of Varese and is, above all, intended as a collective moment of remembrance: an opportunity to remember not only the professional and scholar, but also the person, through the testimonies of those who shared his journey.
