When: 2 October 2026, 10.30 - 17 Where: Cloister of Sant’Abbondio - Via Sant’Abbondio 12, Como Topic: Education and training Target: Students, Graduates, Staff, Prospective Students Immagine evento Immagine To mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Republic, the Sant’Abbondio Students’ Association – thanks to funding provided by the University of Insubria for students’ cultural and recreational activities – is organising a day of in-depth discussion dedicated to the history of the Republic, the transformations of the Italian legal system and the main challenges it faces.The event is scheduled for Friday 2 October at the Sant’Abbondio campus in Como and will consist of two sessions.The morning session, to be held in the Aula Magna from 10.30 am, will focus on reconstructing the historical context and the key events that led to the birth of the Italian Republic. The discussion will feature Professor Antonio Maria Orecchia, a historian, and Professor Lino Panzeri, a constitutional law expert, with Professor Maria Paola Viviani acting as moderator.In the afternoon, in lecture theatre S.01, the day will continue with a discussion between young scholars from various fields of law, moderated by Professor Luigi Testa, lecturer in comparative public law. The aim will be to take stock of the first eighty years of the Republic, reflecting on the main transformations that have affected Italian society and the legal system, and on future prospects. The discussion, conducted from an interdisciplinary perspective, will address, amongst other topics, constitutional evolution, changes in sovereignty, the process of European integration, changes in the family and its legal framework, and the evolution of the Italian criminal justice system. The concluding remarks will be delivered by Professor Giorgio Grasso, a constitutional law expert.A light lunch will be served between the morning and afternoon sessions at the ‘Le Tentazioni’ café, at the Sant’Abbondio campus.Students from the Department of Law, Economics and Culture will be awarded one academic credit.Participation is subject to registration via Forms.
