Publishing date: 23 July 2026 Immagine notizia Immagine Paragrafo On the occasion of Pope Leone XIV’s visit to Pavia on 20 June, to pray before the relics of Augustine which have rested for thirteen centuries in the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro, Professor Renzo Dionigi was introduced to the Pontiff by the Bishop of Pavia, Monsignor Corrado Sanguineti, in the study of Father Casagrande, prior of the Augustinian community.During the audience, the Professor presented the Holy Father with his book entitled ‘Augustine and his Ark in Pavia’, accompanied by an extensive collection of illustrations depicting the Ark in all its majesty.The editor has drawn on valuable essays by Luigi Alici, Angelo Stella, Pierluigi Cuzzolin, Claudio Bonvecchio, Aldo Andrea Cassi, Gianmarco Gaspari, Filippo Maria Ferro, Renzo Dionigi, Sara Fontana, Luisa Erba, Francesca Girelli, Caterina Zaira Laskaris, Cristina Andenna, Maria Teresa Mazzilli Savini, Renata Crotti, Susanna Zatti, Claudia Biraghi, Maria Grazia Albertini Ottolenghi and Silvia Isella Brusamolino.The publishing house Nomos, drawing on its experience in this type of publication, has produced a volume of rare refinement, with most of the scholars involved affiliated with the University of Insubria and the University of Pavia.At the end of the meeting, Professor Dionigi expressed his gratitude and, almost without realising it, took his leave with a few words in English: ‘It’s so nice to be in front of you, Holy Father; thank you for such a privilege’. The Pope, with sweat beading on his forehead from the heat, thanked him, responding with a genuine and radiant smile.
