Professor Silvia Salvatore, of the Department of Medicine and Technological Innovation at the University of Insubria and Head of Paediatric Gastroenterology at the Filippo Del Ponte Hospital in Varese, was recently elected secretary of the European Paediatric Gut Microbiota Group, one of Europe’s leading reference groups for research into the gut microbiota in children.

Professor Salvatore, already a member of the European Paediatric Motility and Neurogastroenterology Core Group and coordinator of the Clinical Microbiomics Group of the Italian Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (SIGENP), thus reaffirms her prominent role in the international scientific community of paediatric gastroenterology.

At the ESPGHAN (European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition) Congress, held in Lille from 24 to 27 June, she presented two scientific papers and seven studies carried out in collaboration with trainee doctors from the University of Insubria’s School of Paediatrics, which she heads. She also contributed, as a co-author, to other multicentre studies presented in Lille.

This appointment represents a significant recognition of the research carried out by the University of Insubria and the Paediatrics Department in Varese, and will enable the university to further strengthen its participation in national and international scientific projects in the field of paediatric gastroenterology and the gut microbiota, whilst also offering new opportunities for development and training to trainee doctors.
