On Tuesday, 16 March 2027, the University of Insubria will host the second edition of «Advances in Water Treatment for Emerging Contaminants Removal – AWaTEC27», an international conference focusing on the latest innovations in water treatment and emerging contaminant management. The event will be held in English in the main lecture hall of Collegio Cattaneo in Varese.

The conference aims to foster dialogue among universities, research centres, companies and water-sector professionals on the most effective strategies for addressing the growing presence of emerging contaminants in aquatic systems.

The programme will be divided into four thematic sessions focusing on:

  • advanced water treatment, with particular emphasis on PFAS and microplastics;
  • the sustainability and circular economy of solutions applicable to the water sector;
  • the analysis and management of risks associated with emerging contaminants;
  • the integration of artificial intelligence into the monitoring and management of pollutants in water treatment plants.

The event is organised by Professor Vincenzo Torretta, Professor Elisabetta Sieni and Dr Marco Carnevale Miino of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences at the University of Insubria.

The call for abstracts is now open: researchers, professionals and industry experts may submit their contributions by 31 December 2026. Abstracts selected by the Scientific Committee will be included in the conference programme as oral presentations or posters and published in the conference proceedings.

Participation is free of charge and exclusively in person, subject to prior registration.

Further information on registration, abstract submission and deadlines is available on the conference website: awatec27.dista.uninsubria.it.
