During the 31st annual conference, held in Bilbao from 15 to 17 April, Barbara Pozzo, Full Professor of Comparative Private Law at the University of Insubria and the Rector’s Delegate for Internationalisation, was elected new President of the European Law Faculties Association.
The European Law Faculties Association is an international organisation committed to improving legal education across Europe. Its main objectives include coordinating reforms in legal education and promoting cooperation between law faculties in Europe and on other continents.
The association also provides a forum for discussion on legal education issues, negotiates cooperation agreements and organises conferences and events for its members. Since 2024, it has counted more than 150 affiliated institutions across 49 countries and four continents. In August 2024, the European Law Institute officially welcomed the European Law Faculties Association as an institutional observer.
The most significant contributions to the association’s activities are published in the European Journal of Legal Education, an international peer-reviewed open access journal that publishes original research on legal education and serves as a reference point for debate on the training of European lawyers.
Following her election, Professor Pozzo announced that the next international conference of the European Law Faculties Association will be held at the University of Insubria, from 14 to 16 April 2027 in Como, and will be dedicated to the dialogue between law and science, as part of the celebrations for the bicentenary of Alessandro Volta’s death.
Barbara Pozzo is also President of Sird, the Italian Society for Research in Comparative Law, a corresponding member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and holder of the Unesco Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in Multicultural Society.
