When you enroll in a bachelor’s or single-cycle master’s degree program, even if it is open admission, you must take an entrance exam to assess your prior knowledge.
This test is mandatory, but it does not affect your enrollment in the program, as it is not used to select students but to assess whether the knowledge you have acquired during your previous schooling is adequate for the chosen degree program.
If such knowledge is insufficient, Additional Learning Requirements (OFA) are assigned to be completed within the first year of the program.
To address these deficiencies, individual degree programs organize specific support activities and indicate whether further assessments or other methods of verifying completion of the OFA are required.
If you do not take the assessment on any of the scheduled dates or do not follow the instructions provided for supplementing your initial preparation, you may be barred from enrolling in the second year of the degree program or from taking the course exams.
You can consult the content, procedures, and dates of the assessment scheduled for your degree program, as well as any additional educational requirements, on our University website, on the page dedicated to the initial preparation assessment.
Please note that:
if you are enrolled in a degree program with limited enrollment but, despite having passed the admission exam, do not meet the minimum requirements set forth in the Academic Regulations, you will be assigned specific Additional Academic Requirements (OFA), to be fulfilled during the first year of the program.
Detailed information on make-up procedures is available on each degree program’s webpage and in the program’s academic regulations.
Even if you are enrolled in a degree program with limited enrollment, you will still be required to take the placement exam.
The exam is usually administered after enrollment, but it is important to check the specific requirements for each degree program.
If you already have credits from another degree program, you can request that they be transferred upon enrollment, by attaching the transfer request, a list of the exams you have already passed, and the syllabi for all the exams for which you are requesting credit, to the online application.
You cannot request recognition for partial coursework that does not appear in your academic transcript.
Your request will be evaluated by an Academic Committee, which will provide you with a response via a resolution informing you whether the credits you have already earned have been fully or partially recognized.
Please note: if your degree program requires a TOLC as a placement test, you must access the CISIA platform (www.cisiaonline.it), which administers the test. There you will find all the information you need to prepare for the test, the available dates, and practice tests. TOLC tests can be taken multiple times, both before and after enrollment, within the specific deadlines indicated by your degree program.
You can enroll in one of the pre-courses offered by the University. They take place between mid-August and mid-September and will help you prepare for the placement tests.
The pre-courses are on:
- Study Methods
- Basic Writing
- Italian
- Law
- Mathematics (for Economics, Law, and Tourism)
- Foreign Languages
You can find the schedules and registration procedures on the “Preparati all’Università” page of the website.
If your course requires a TOLC test as an assessment, you can find practice exercises to help you prepare on the website www.cisiaonline.it.
The university ID card and the Carta Ateneo Più are the same thing.
It is a personalized magnetic card that is mailed to your home by Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna (Banca BPER).
The card identifies you as a student, so it is required to access exams and services offered at university facilities (e.g., study rooms, library). It does not replace your ID, which will always be requested at the Student Services offices to protect your privacy.
The Carta Ateneo Più is also the tool that allows recipients of regional scholarships to use the dining services and onto which the entitlement to free meals is loaded.
It is also a rechargeable prepaid card equipped with an IBAN and all the internet banking services that you can activate upon pickup or later by visiting a branch of Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna (Banca BPER).
These services allow you to use the Card to receive scholarship payments or refunds, or to pay university tuition and fees using Pago PA payment slips.
Your University Card will be mailed to you starting in October at the address you provided when you enrolled. If you do not receive it, you can contact the Student Affairs Office through the Infostudenti service.
If you still haven't found the answers you're looking for, contact the Student Information Service via the call center, the online help desk, or the chat feature.
