Rector

The Rector of the University of Insubria represents the University and performs various functions: he has general duties of initiative, promotion and coordination; he convenes and chairs the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors and oversees the implementation of their respective resolutions; exercises disciplinary power over students and staff in accordance with current regulations and has supervisory duties; promulgates regulations, issues decrees appointing academic positions and enters into agreements, contracts and accords.  
In exceptional cases of necessity and urgency, takes measures falling within the competence of the Academic Senate and the Board of Directors, to be submitted for ratification by the competent body at the next available meeting.

The Rector for the six-year period 2024-2030 is Prof. Maria Pierro.

In order to carry out his or her duties, the Rector, after consulting with the Vice-Rector, may appoint one or more delegates chosen from among the professors and researchers employed by the University, without any cost to the University budget (Art. 14, paragraph 2 of the Statute).
