In accordance with the provisions of current law on the protection of personal data, the University of Insubria, Data Controller, through this policy provides users maximum transparency regarding the information that the websites of the University portal system collect through the technology called "cookies".
The official websites www.uninsubria.it, www.uninsubria.eu, http://intranet.uninsubria.it and the Personal Home Pages (HPP), which have as their first part the http address, are part of the University portal system://hpp.uninsubria.it, and this policy applies only to them.
What is described below does not include other websites that may be accessed by the user via links (hyperlink).
This policy is an integral part of the Information on the processing of personal data on the websites of the University portal system, which we invite you to consult for completeness of information (consult the information).
The Data Controller is the University of Insubria, in the person of the Rector, with registered office in Varese (VA) in Via Ravasi, 2.
The Data Processor for the provision of the services of the University Portal system is the CINECA consortium with registered office in Via Magnanelli, 6/3, 40033 Casalecchio di Reno (BO).
Pursuant to art. 37 et seq. of the GDPR, the University has appointed the Data Protection Officer (DPO) who can be contacted using the e-mail address privacy@uninsubria.it.
Cookies are small text files which the websites can send to the computer and to any device used for navigation (e.g. smartphones and tablets). Cookies are stored and then transmitted to the same sites during the next visit of the same user. They can be stored permanently and have a variable duration (persistent cookies), but can also be deleted closing the browser or have a very limited duration (session cookies).
While browsing the Internet, the user can also receive two types of cookies: those of the same site visited (first-party cookies), or those of different websites or web servers (third-party cookies).
Similar technologies, such as web beacons, transparent GIFs, and all forms of local storage introduced with HTML5, can be used to collect information about user behavior and service use.
In the following we will refer to cookies and all similar technologies simply as "cookies".
The portal system of the University of Insubria uses this technology because it helps the University to know which part of a certain site is most frequented, which is the path of visitors and how long they have remained. This allows to improve performance and paths, the content of the site, with the aim to better meet the interests and preferences of users.
The websites of the University’s portal system, including this, make use of technical cookies (called of first-party) necessary for their operation, monitoring cookies similar to technical cookies and third-party cookies.
Cookies are not used with explicit profiling purposes or for purposes other than those stated here.
They are necessary for the functioning of the services. As the user’s consent is not required for their installation, these cookies will always be used and sent to the browser in use, unless the person concerned changes his or her settings. We stress that disabling some of them may affect the proper functioning of the sites or their services.
The “first party” technical cookies collected by the site are processed at the headquarters of the Data Controller (Consorzio CINECA), which processes the log files on behalf of the Data Controller.
They have a maximum duration of 365 days, unless renewed voluntarily by the user by reiterating consent.
The legal basis for the use of this type of cookie is the performance of the service requested (art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR).
They allow to know how visitors use a particular website, in order to be able to evaluate and improve its functioning and prioritize the production of content that best meets the information needs of users. They take into account, among other things, the number of visitors, the time spent on the site by the average user and their arrival methods (e.g. direct access, search engine, other website, email and so on).
These cookies are provided by the national platform Web Analytics Italia (WAI), which is based on the Piwik service of the Matomo software (open source web analytics platform) and which the University portal system uses for its statistical analysis.
WAI guarantees the total control and ownership of the data collected, the absence of sampling, the anonymization of users' IP addresses, the storage of data on dedicated servers for the exclusive use of public administration and located in Italy, compliance with the latest IT security standards and ICT (information and communication technology) security guidelines in public administrations.
The WAI project is fully compliant with the requirements of the GDPR and further information is available at https://webanalytics.italia.it/privacy.
The University interest to process statistical information on the navigation of the platform (art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR) is the legal basis for the use of this type of cookie. It is understood that the user can object at any time to the use of such cookies.
The official websites that come under the University portal system make use of "third-party" content and services, as a result of incorporation (embedding) external resources or the implementation of technologies that can extend the functionality and improve the browsing experience of users or, again, linked.
It is therefore possible that, during the visit to these sites, other cookies, technical and/ or able to carry out profiling, are sent by these third parties to the user’s terminal, without the Data Controller being aware of it, nor can intervene.
The following is a list of the services incorporated, implemented or linked by the websites of the University portal system and a link to the related privacy policies and, when available/separate, the use of cookies:
