The beginning of clinical training marks an important step in the education of medical students: the knowledge acquired during their university studies is complemented by experience in healthcare settings and direct interaction with patients. The University of Insubria is marking this transition with its White Coat Ceremony, to be held on Wednesday 14 October for students enrolled in the single-cycle Master's degree programme in Medicine and Surgery.

The white coat symbolises a new stage in their education, when academic learning meets clinical practice and the relationship with patients. Wearing it also means taking on new responsibilities based on respect for the individual, attentive listening, confidentiality and awareness of the limits of one's role.

The ceremony will open with remarks by Rector Maria Cristina Pierro and Daniela Dalla Gasperina, Rector's Delegate for Education. They will be followed by Francesca Rovera, President of the School of Medicine, and Matteo Tozzi, President of the Degree Programme in Medicine and Surgery, who will speak about the transition from preclinical education to clinical practice and the significance of the white coat. Lucia Cerutti, a Medicine and Surgery student and member of the Academic Senate, will present the students' perspective.

At the heart of the event, students will put on their white coats in a ceremony symbolically marking the beginning of their clinical training.

The ceremony will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Aula Magna, Via Ravasi 2, Varese. Students eligible to participate have received an email from the Teaching Office with the registration form and instructions on how to confirm their attendance.
