“Advances in Water Treatment for Emerging Contaminants Removal – AWaTEC26” is the title of the first edition of the conference organised by the University of Insubria, scheduled for Wednesday 11 March, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., in the “Granero-Porati” Aula Magna at Via Dunant 3, Varese.
The initiative arises from the growing need to address issues related to the presence of emerging contaminants in water systems, such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products, microplastics, PFAS and new-generation organic compounds. The aim of the day is to foster dialogue between academia, research centres and water-sector professionals, promoting the exchange of knowledge and technological solutions for safer and more sustainable water resource management.
The event will bring together speakers from universities and companies operating in the water sector, organised into thematic sessions: advanced applications for water treatment (two morning sessions), a session dedicated to the ProPla project, which investigates the transformation of microplastics into high value-added products, and a case studies session presented by selected industrial stakeholders, focusing on technologies and strategies applied in wastewater treatment plants.
The programme also includes a poster session, open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Aula Magna foyer, featuring international contributions on innovative adsorbents, new materials for contaminant removal, advanced oxidation processes and the sustainability of water treatment solutions.
The conference is organised by the scientific committee composed of University of Insubria academics Elisabetta Sieni, Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences, and Marco Carnevale Miino, Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences.
Participation is free of charge and in person only, subject to registration via the form at https://forms.office.com/e/G1wz3Mey9Y.
Registration closes on 1 March 2026.
