The University of Insubria has joined the national CRUI-CISIA platform dedicated to preparing prospective students who intend to undertake the Open Semester for admission to the single-cycle Master’s degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics.

The platform, available free of charge upon registration at www.semestreaperto-medodovet.it, provides learning materials, online courses, exercises and self-assessment tools covering the three subjects included in the Open Semester: Biology, Chemistry and Introductory Biochemistry, and Physics.

Exercises and self-assessment tools

Pre-semester exercises in Biology, Chemistry and Physics are available to help students independently assess their level of preparation before beginning their university studies.

The activities enable students to identify any gaps in their knowledge, evaluate the skills and knowledge acquired during secondary school, and plan their study and revision more effectively before university classes begin.

The self-assessment tools do not replace the teaching activities offered during the Open Semester. However, they provide valuable support in becoming familiar with the topics covered by the three subjects and approaching the new academic pathway with stronger preparation.

Online courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Pre-semester MOOCs are also available. These online courses cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics and are designed around the level of preparation required for the transition from secondary school to university.

The courses allow students to review the main subject areas, consolidate their foundational knowledge and explore the topics required before attending the Open Semester. The online format enables students to organise their studies independently and work through the different activities at their own pace.

Exam simulations available from 1 September

From 1 September, the platform will be expanded with new structured exercises and exam simulations organised according to the different teaching units set out in the ministerial syllabuses for Biology, Chemistry and Introductory Biochemistry, and Physics.

The simulations will allow students to practise the content included in the national curriculum, assess the level of learning they have achieved and become more familiar with the structure of the examinations held at the end of the Open Semester.

To use all the content and services, students must register at www.semestreaperto-medodovet.it. Once registered, they will be able to access their personal area and progressively use the available activities according to the activation schedule.

The initiative provides prospective students with a structured pathway supporting their preparation for university. Its aim is to strengthen foundational scientific skills, encourage informed self-assessment and support students as they prepare for the teaching activities and national examinations of the Open Semester.
