Digital Technologies for the Environment and Construction: Applications Open for the New Professional Bachelor's Degree Leading to the Qualification of Graduate Surveyor

Applications are now open at the University of Insubria for the new professionally oriented Bachelor's degree in Digital Technologies for the Environment and Construction (Tedac), a new addition to the University's academic offer that will be launched in the 2026/2027 academic year at the Varese campus.

The programme belongs to the L-P01 degree class – Technical Professions for Construction and Land Management and qualifies graduates for the new professional title of Graduate Surveyor (Geometra Laureato) under Italian Ministerial Decree 446/2020 and Interministerial Decree 682/2023. Upon graduation, students are eligible for direct registration with the Italian Board of Surveyors (Collegio dei Geometri e Geometri Laureati).

The University of Insubria is the third university in Lombardy to offer this degree. Although it is currently available at 23 Italian universities, it has not previously been offered in the area between Milan, Varese and Como, nor at any university in the neighbouring Piedmont region.

Designed as a direct pathway into the labour market, the programme does not provide progression to a master's degree. It is primarily intended for students holding a secondary school diploma in Construction, Environment and Territory (formerly the Surveyor diploma), an educational track that has seen significant growth both locally and nationally. It also offers a valuable opportunity for practising surveyors wishing to enhance their qualifications by obtaining a university degree.

The programme has been designed and is managed by the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences (Dista), directed by Professor Alberto Coen Porisini, in collaboration with the Surveyors' Boards of Varese and Como, with additional support from the Boards of Milan, Monza and Brianza, Novara, and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. The academic coordinators of the programme are Professors Fabio Conti and Salvatore Carlucci.

The programme is currently awaiting its official establishment decree from the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (Anvur), having already received a favourable opinion from the Italian National University Council (Cun).

The Graduate Surveyor is a highly qualified professional capable of working across a wide range of fields, including public and private construction, civil and rural infrastructure, land management and environmental protection, workplace safety, and energy efficiency. Graduates will also develop advanced skills in digital surveying and measurement technologies, data processing software, and digital imaging and modelling, preparing them for careers at the forefront of the construction, environmental and land management sectors in line with current technological innovation and labour market demands.

The programme lasts three years. During the first two years, students acquire a solid theoretical foundation complemented by extensive practical training through lectures, laboratory work, workshops and seminars. The third year is entirely devoted to a professional internship carried out in technical practices, companies and public or private organisations.

Career opportunities include both the private and public sectors, ranging from self-employment as a licensed surveyor to positions in consultancy, engineering firms, construction companies and public administration. Graduates will be equipped with expertise in the design, management and maintenance of buildings and territorial systems, contributing to ecological transition and digital transformation.
