Access methods: Online
Contenuto servizio

To protect your account at a higher level and simplify access to the University’s online services, two-factor authentication (2FA) is now available. Access to the University’s management systems will therefore take place through a more secure authentication process in which, in addition to your email password, you will be required to provide a temporary password (OTP – One-Time Password) generated by an application available on your smartphone. Furthermore, if you use SPID or CIE, you will be able to access services in a simple and centralised way, avoiding the need to manage different credentials for each service.

Who is it intended for

The service is intended for:

  • Technical, administrative, and library staff
  • Academic staff and researchers
  • Supplier staff
Why enable 2FA

Greater security: even in the event of password theft or loss, your account remains protected.

Easy to use: you can receive the second authentication factor via an authenticator app on your smartphone (such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) or via SMS.

How to enable it
  1. Go to the activation page:
    https://uninsubria.2fa.cineca.it/
  2. Follow the instructions to register your account.
  3. Two apps will be suggested for generating the OTP. We recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app (already used for Microsoft 365) to scan the QR code.
  4. In the app, once configured, the entry “IDP-UNINSUBRIA” will appear. Use it to obtain the code to be entered in the “Token” field when accessing services.
  5. Enter your mobile phone number (optional): it may be used as an alternative verification method.

At present, activation of 2FA is optional, but we strongly recommend proceeding immediately in order to:

  • protect your account more effectively,
  • simplify access to services,
  • be prepared for when this protection becomes mandatory.

Please note: you can also access the University’s online services via:

  • SPID (Public Digital Identity System)
  • CIE (Electronic Identity Card)

Both are secure, recommended tools and are compatible with 2FA.

Frequently Asked Questions about Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

It is a security system that adds a second step to the normal login process. In addition to your password, you will be asked to provide a temporary code generated by an app (e.g. Microsoft Authenticator) or by another device.

  • To better protect your account from unauthorised access.
  • To simplify access to online services, especially if you use SPID or CIE.
  • To avoid managing too many passwords: with 2FA you can access all services in a centralised way.

At the moment, no, but we strongly recommend enabling it now so that you are already prepared when it becomes mandatory and can immediately benefit from greater security and convenience.

Absolutely yes! In fact, SPID and CIE are recommended methods for accessing the University’s online services. With 2FA enabled, SPID can become your single access tool, avoiding the need to use different credentials.
