Purpose

In order to respond effectively to the needs of the student population, a Psychological Counselling Service is available, with the following objectives:

  • to offer professional support to students experiencing personal or relational difficulties that hinder the normal achievement of academic goals;
  • to listen to and support students with difficulties in their studies or interpersonal relationships, in order to improve their self-awareness, enhance their skills and help them adapt to the university environment;
  • to help students in crisis situations identify the source of their distress and develop adaptive strategies to overcome their difficulties;
  • Provide support and counselling to students experiencing stress and anxiety.
  • Support students who are experiencing problems related to an inappropriate choice of studies, focusing on and clarifying their personal interests and motivations in order to redefine their objectives and develop alternative decisions, if necessary.
  • prepare, on the basis of a systematic assessment of the needs identified by the service, guidance tools for the prevention and timely resolution of situations of distress most frequently associated with integration into university life.
Who does it?

The service is managed by the Department of Medicine and Surgery.

Dr Eugenia Trotti, researcher and associate professor of Clinical Psychology at the School of Medicine, is responsible for the service and deals with the technical, scientific and organisational aspects that regulate clinical and promotional activities.

The counselling service is run by an external professional consultant who specialises in psychotherapy and university counselling.

Who it is aimed at

To all university students during their studies and recent graduates who need help in the transition from university to the world of work.

How to apply

The service is organised to ensure privacy and maximum confidentiality.

Appointments are available: anyone interested should send a request by e-mail to psicologia.clinica@uninsubria.it. You will be contacted directly by the professional who manages the listening service.

Service cost

The first consultation is free of charge: the costs are covered entirely by the University.

Further consultations may then be scheduled, depending on the user's needs, for which the student is required to pay a contribution of €15.00 per consultation.

Headquarters

Interviews are held in a specially designated studio located at the Carlo Cattaneo University College in Via Dunant 3, Varese, and in Como at the Chiostro di Sant’Abbondio.
