MATLAB® is software used by millions of engineers and scientists worldwide. It provides a high-level language and an interactive environment used in mathematics and numerical computing, signal and image processing, telecommunications systems, control systems, and computational finance.
One of the main extensions of MATLAB is Simulink, a graphical environment for multidomain simulation and Model-Based Design, which supports system-level design, simulation, automatic code generation, testing, and verification of embedded systems.
The University of Insubria has entered into a Total Academic Headcount (TAH) campus agreement with the supplier The MathWorks for the use of the main MathWorks products across the University (on personal computers, in laboratories, computer rooms, and departments, for teaching activities and non-commercial research activities). In addition to MATLAB and Simulink, the complete suite includes more than 80 specialised toolboxes. The campus licence ensures continuous software updates and the release of new tools throughout the duration of the contract.
The MathWorks TAH licence currently active for our University will expire on 31 March 2026.
*** TO UPDATE THE LICENCE, SIMPLY CONNECT TO THE MATLAB PORTAL DEDICATED TO OUR UNIVERSITY ***
The licence is intended for all academic staff and technical/administrative staff, researchers, PhD students, grant holders and research fellows, as well as currently enrolled students.
Students, academic staff and technical/administrative staff can download an individual standalone copy of the software on each computer configured for a single MATLAB user (including office and personal computers).
Simply access the University of Insubria MATLAB portal to download the software and activate the licence. At the first access, you will need to create an account using your University email address (@uninsubria.it or @studenti.uninsubria.it).
From the portal you can download all updated tools, as well as documentation, guides, video tutorials, examples and, more generally, everything that may be useful to learn how to use MATLAB or to make the most of its features in different fields.
The licence also includes a Direct Support service provided by MATLAB, which can be activated directly from the portal.
For large-scale deployment of MATLAB in classrooms and laboratories, it is necessary to use the campus licence’s Concurrent Network Licence. Using MATLAB in these environments requires a connection to the University of Insubria network in order to access the licence server. For further instructions, please contact matlab_licensing@uninsubria.it.
For individual computers that cannot connect to the licence server network (for example, for fieldwork activities) and that are used by multiple users, the Campus licence option can be used. The designated PCs will run MATLAB without accessing the network once the software has been downloaded and the licence activated. Please visit this link for further instructions on how to configure this licensing mode.
