Pursuant to Legislative Decree 81/08, the University guarantees the protection of workers' health and safety. The necessary activities are coordinated by the Safety Office, which collaborates with Department Managers, Professors responsible for teaching and research activities, the Competent Doctor, the Radiation Protection Expert and the Laser Safety Technician.

Personnel are subjected to a risk profile assessment related to their job and undergo health surveillance.

Who it is addressed to

The service is aimed at all those who fall under the definition of ‘worker’ as defined in Article 2, paragraph 1, letter b) of Legislative Decree 81/08:

  •     research and teaching staff
  •     T/A staff
  •     assignees and scholarship holders
  •     PhD students
  •     students on traineeships in laboratories or gyms
  •     part-time students
  •     students in the degree course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics
  •     contractors
  •     trainees.

Doctors in specialised training are supervised by the institution where they practice.

Features of the service

The service consists of the following key stages:

All the personnel concerned, before the start of the activity, are required to complete the forms necessary for the definition of occupational risk, available in the annex.

The basic form (Form SS1) may be supplemented by other forms, according to the types of risk declared by the compiler, for example:

  • SS2 VdT - use of video terminals
  • Carcinogen form - use of carcinogenic/mutagenic substances
  • Declaration of training

The documentation, initialled by the person concerned, the Head of Laboratory Research and Teaching Activities (RADRL) and the Facility Manager, must be forwarded to the Safety Office, together with the Declaration of Training Carried out by the RADRL or Facility Manager.

The Safety Office verifies the correctness and completeness of the information and proceeds to define the types of risk to which the worker is subject. The data is forwarded to the Competent Doctor, who proceeds to summon the worker for a fitness-for-duty examination and enters the worker in the health surveillance programme.

Workers subject to surveillance are summoned to a medical check-up, at varying intervals, according to the instructions of the Competent Doctor. If they are unable to attend the examination, the person concerned is required to give timely notice by sending the appropriate form (Form SVP) to the Safety Office. If necessary, staff may request a medical assessment visit, using the specific form (Form MVR).

Personnel must notify the Security Office in good time of any change in their activity, forwarding the updated version of Form SS1 and any other documentation that may be required.

The person in charge of teaching and laboratory research activities shall notify the personnel concerned of the termination of their activity (Form N-C) well in advance.

Report a criticality

Workers may report risk situations, incorrect behaviour, activities involving exposure to particular dangers by filling in the criticality report form (available in the annexes) and sending it to the Safety Office.
