The 10th edition of EndoAthens 2026, the leading international congress dedicated to endoscopic surgery of the paranasal sinuses, skull base, and orbit, recently concluded in Athens. The Department of Otolaryngology of ASST Lariana and the University of Insubria played an active role in the scientific program, contributing 12 presentations developed through the long-standing clinical and academic partnership between the hospital network and the University. The presentations focused on advanced endoscopic surgery, as well as orbital and skull base tumors.

The 2026 edition carried particular significance for the international scientific community, which dedicated the entire congress to Professor Paolo Castelnuovo, former Full Professor at the University of Insubria. During the meeting, Castelnuovo received a prestigious public tribute in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the development and standardization of modern endoscopic transnasal and skull base surgery—innovations that have profoundly influenced clinical practice and reshaped the field worldwide.

As part of the official ceremony, Professor Paolo Battaglia, Head of Otolaryngology at ASST Lariana and faculty member at the University of Insubria, was invited to deliver the commemorative keynote lecture retracing Castelnuovo’s academic, clinical, and research career. His address highlighted the lasting impact of Castelnuovo’s work on the education and training of generations of specialist surgeons, both in Italy and internationally. This important international recognition reflects the scientific and educational path developed by the University of Insubria in close collaboration with the healthcare facilities of ASST Lariana.

Today, the legacy of this integrated clinical and academic model continues through RhinoEdu Como, the scientific group jointly promoted by ASST Lariana and the University of Insubria. The group is actively engaged in research, advanced surgical training, and minimally invasive treatment of diseases affecting the paranasal sinuses, orbit, and skull base.

“Great schools do not merely preserve a tradition; they renew it every day by training the surgeons who will shape the future of our specialty,” Professor Battaglia remarked at the conclusion of the congress.

Also participating in the scientific sessions were Professor Mario Turri-Zanoni, Head of Otolaryngology at Cantù Hospital and faculty member at the University of Insubria, together with Dr Alessandro Vinciguerra and Dr Gloria Schiavo, otolaryngologists at ASST Lariana.
