On Friday 12 June at 3 pm, Lecture Theatre 1TM in the Morselli Pavilion at the University of Insubria in Varese will host the event ‘Investigative Fiction: Opportunities and Unresolved Issues’. The event, which is free to attend, addresses the topic of public and institutional communication regarding the justice system and the activities of its key figures: lawyers, magistrates, judicial police and those involved in legal proceedings.
The starting point is the observation that this field requires specific knowledge and skills, not always part of the traditional cultural background of legal professionals and communicators. Justice and security, however, are widely discussed: in journalism, literature, true crime and the portrayal of legal professions. Hence the central question of the meeting: is it possible to define, build and disseminate communicative knowledge within the legal world and legal knowledge within the world of communication, supporting those who wish to practise them?
The programme opens with institutional greetings from Professor Giulio Facchetti, coordinator of the PhD programme in Law and Human Sciences and director of the Centre for Epigraphic and Documentary Research at the University of Insubria.
This is followed by the introductory paper ‘Public, Institutional and Legal Communication’ by Professor Giuseppe Battarino, a former magistrate and lecturer in Public and Institutional Communication on the Communication Sciences degree course. Presentations are also scheduled by researchers Fabio Calandrino, Giuseppe Longo, Alice Angelini, Elettra Aldinio and Alessandro Buzzi.
The closing remarks will be delivered by Professor Paola Biavaschi, Director of the Department of Human Sciences and Innovation for the Territory at the University of Insubria.
