On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, ASST Sette Laghi is promoting a training event dedicated to autism spectrum disorder in adulthood, an increasingly central topic in clinical practice.
The event is scheduled for 2 April at 8.30 a.m. in the “Granero Porati” Lecture Hall at the University of Insubria and will involve doctors, psychologists and professionals from the healthcare and social care sectors. Institutional greetings will be given by Professor Paola Biavaschi, the Rector’s Delegate for Gender Equality and Equal Opportunities.
In recent years, autism spectrum disorder has increasingly been recognised in adulthood as well, bringing to light new diagnostic and therapeutic needs. In this context, the course aims to provide practical tools to address clinical complexity, with a focus on diagnostic difficulties, often linked to the variability of symptoms, late recognition and gender differences.
“It is essential to develop increasingly integrated skills to identify people’s needs in adulthood too,” emphasises Professor Camilla Callegari, Director of the School of Specialisation in Psychiatry and the Rector’s Delegate for Disability and Psychological Wellbeing, one of the promoters of the initiative. “Autism does not concern only developmental age: it is a condition that accompanies people throughout their lives and requires appropriate, personalised responses.”
Considerable attention will also be devoted to multidisciplinary care, integrating psychopharmacological, psychotherapeutic, psychoeducational and rehabilitation interventions, with the aim of improving adaptive functioning and people’s quality of life.
The initiative, which stems from the collaboration between ASST Sette Laghi and the University of Insubria, confirms the strategic role of dialogue between the healthcare system and academia in building increasingly effective care pathways. It is aimed at various professional figures, including doctors, psychologists, nurses, professional educators and therapists.
An opportunity for professional development and discussion on a rapidly evolving topic, calling on healthcare services to strengthen their ability to understand and respond to the needs of adults on the autism spectrum.
