The seminar entitled “Caring for the person: body, narrative and relationships in care contexts” is scheduled for Thursday 4 June, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Granero Porati Lecture Hall at the University of Insubria, in Varese.
The event, dedicated to care and residential settings, addresses the impact that entering facilities such as hospitals, care homes and therapeutic communities has on people’s identity and relationships. These transitions represent delicate moments that can redefine one’s relationship with the body, autonomy and social recognition, as well as transforming family bonds and roles.
The initiative stems from the need to move beyond an exclusively medical view of care, proposing an integrated approach that combines clinical expertise with knowledge from the humanities and social sciences. The aim of the seminar is to explore care as a multidimensional process, one that includes symbolic, cultural and existential aspects, offering a broader and more informed interpretation of experiences lived within institutional contexts.
After the institutional greetings, the introduction to the proceedings will be given by Simone Vender, Honorary Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Insubria. This will be followed by talks by Felice Di Lernia, anthropologist, on “Body and identity transformation”; Nicola Poloni, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Insubria and Director of the DSMD of ASST Lariana, on “Illness as a cultural experience”; Camillo Porrini, professional educator and clinical pedagogue, on “Narrative and the reconstruction of meaning”; Grazia Marchini, pedagogue and Director of the degree course in Professional Education at the University of Insubria and ATS Insubria, on “Caring for thresholds: the educational role in critical transitions”.
Participation is free of charge. To obtain the certificate of attendance, participants must attend 100% of the event; the certificate will be completed and issued at the end of the seminar. Participant registration will open at 8.30 a.m.
Accreditation for healthcare professions is planned. The ECM certificate will be available on the ATS Insubria Course Portal within 90 days of the end of the event, provided that the required attendance threshold has been met and the satisfaction questionnaire has been completed.
Registration takes place via the ATS Insubria Refera portal, after creating an account.
