The 2026 edition of the Spring National University Championships ended with an outstanding result for CUS Insubria. The event was held from 22 to 31 May in Novara, Vercelli and Alessandria and was organised by CUS Piemonte Orientale under the aegis of FederCUSI. It involved more than 3,000 student-athletes, around one hundred University Sports Centres and fourteen disciplines, confirming its role as the main event in Italian university sport.
In a highly competitive and widely attended setting, CUS Insubria finished sixth in the medal table of the 2026 Spring CNU, winning a total of eight medals: two golds, three silvers and three bronzes. This result highlights the commitment of the student-athletes and confirms the quality of the University’s sports movement.
The gold medals came from athletics. Domenico Farina won the 5000 metres, securing one of the most significant successes for CUS Insubria. The 4x400 relay team, made up of Alessandro Carli, Giacomo Mangili, Salvatore Verzì and Mattia De Rocchi, also reached the top step of the podium, delivering a strong team performance that confirmed Insubria’s competitiveness on the track.
Three silver medals were also won. Elisa Colombani took second place in the 100 metres hurdles, while Mattia De Rocchi, already a gold medallist in the 4x400 relay, also won silver in the 800 metres, completing an especially notable individual performance. In taekwondo, Alessia Albu won silver in the -49 kg category.
CUS Insubria’s medal tally was further enriched by three bronze medals. Sara Gandolfi reached the podium in the 1500 metres in athletics; Sarah Bottelli finished third in taekwondo, in the -67 kg category; and Christian Sagunti won bronze in judo, in the -100 kg category.
These results reflect a broad and competitive participation, capable of bringing CUS Insubria onto the podium in different disciplines and giving visibility to the talent of the University’s student-athletes.
The 2026 edition of the Spring National University Championships was not only a sporting competition, but also an opportunity for athletic, personal and university growth. For CUS Insubria, sixth place in the medal table and the eight medals won confirm the value of university sport as a space for commitment, belonging and education.
