Alberto Onetti, professor at the University of Insubria and Chairman of Mind the Bridge, has been included by Dealroom among the 30 most influential people in Europe helping to shape the deep tech ecosystem. He is the only Italian based in the country to feature on the list.
Onetti is Full Professor in the Department of Economics, coordinates the master’s degree programme Geem (Global Entrepreneurship, Economics and Management) and specialises in entrepreneurship and innovation. Alongside his academic work, he is known for his commitment, through Mind the Bridge, to the development of start-ups and the creation of global entrepreneurial ecosystems. He is considered one of the leading international experts on open innovation.
Deep tech refers to advanced technologies based on scientific research and engineering – such as artificial intelligence, space, robotics, new materials and quantum computing – that are transforming industry and society.
“It was a surprise to be included in a list alongside outstanding figures such as Yann LeCun (Meta and now AMI), Arthur Mensch (Mistral AI), Peter Steinberger (OpenClaw), Torsten Reil (Helsing), who are revolutionising the world as we know it,” Onetti comments. “With many people in this group, and many others who were not included in the list but deserve to be, I share more than a decade of commitment to making Europe an engine of innovation. We have achieved some important results, such as having a European Commissioner for Start-ups for the first time, but much remains to be achieved, properly and quickly. This week’s debate on the 28th Regime is a good example.”
Dealroom’s selection includes founders, investors, policymakers and researchers driving the development of innovation in Europe. The names include leading international figures such as Demis Hassabis (Google DeepMind), Yann LeCun, one of the pioneers of artificial intelligence, and other key players in the global innovation ecosystem.
Dealroom, founded in Amsterdam in 2013, is one of Europe’s leading platforms for data and analysis on the start-up and venture capital ecosystem, used by institutions, investors and companies to monitor innovation.
Onetti’s inclusion on the list recognises his role in developing the international start-up and technology transfer ecosystem, also through the activities of Mind the Bridge, an organisation that connects companies and innovation globally.
