The University of Insubria has been allocated 59.4 million euros under the 2026 Ordinary Financing Fund (FFO). The figure is set out in the decree issued by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, which defines the criteria for allocating the main funding instrument for Italy’s state universities.
The FFO supports university operations, teaching, research and staff. For 2026, the Fund amounts to a total of 9.415 billion euros, an increase of 25.6 million euros compared with 2025 and 26 per cent compared with 2019.
In Lombardy, the total funding allocated to state universities amounts to 1.161 billion euros, an increase of 18.4 million euros compared with 2025 and 31.9 per cent compared with 2019.
Among the new features of the 2026 FFO is the introduction of a measure allowing universities to fund strategic projects and innovative initiatives of particular importance for the development of the national university system.
“Through the Ordinary Financing Fund, we continue to increase resources for universities. This commitment translates into greater planning capacity for universities, stronger support for research, higher-quality teaching and greater opportunities for students, researchers and academic staff,” said Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini.
The decree was reviewed by the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) and the National Council of University Students (CNSU). CRUI expressed its full support, highlighting the balance between rewarding merit and ensuring the financial stability of universities, and welcoming the timely allocation of resources.
