The University of Insubria was present in Mexico at the 61st Week of the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, Uaslp, organized from 22 to 26 April with the theme «From theory to technology: an integrated scientific journey».
Alessandra Rizzardi, researcher in Software Engineering at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences, participated in the rich program of conferences, workshops, cultural and sporting events. The week, focused on four main themes (Thriving with Technology, Life Sciences, Foundations of the Universe and Science in Action), introduced this year a special section dedicated to the theme of cybersecurity and the Internet of Things, aimed to promote skills in cutting-edge technologies.
Dr Rizzardi spoke as keynote speaker for the conference on 24 April with the topic «The Internet of Things era: exploring security and privacy challenges»:
In the era of the Internet of Things - explains Rizzardi -, the spread of a large number of devices, equipped with different network protocols and standards, highlights the need to introduce architectural solutions that address interoperability and scalability issues. In addition, security and privacy are critical requirements, mainly due to the wireless nature of communications and the confidentiality of the transmitted data. In this context, the definition of an efficient network infrastructure for resource management is necessary, combined with a framework that can apply security and privacy policies. Ensuring effective control and supervising access permissions to Internet of Things applications is complex, mainly due to heterogeneity and resource scalability requirements. It is necessary to prevent tampering or violation of both information and access policies».
During the week she was also the speaker of a workshop entitled «Internet of Things: small devices huge applications» for two different groups of students, in which she explained what are the main standard protocols for communication, how to ensure the security and privacy of information through encryption or blockchain-based techniques and the new frontiers of Informatics such as 5G networks, fog computing and nanotechnology.
He also participated in the meeting with partners from several universities in the San Luis Potosí region on cybersecurity in the Internet of Things and cybercrime.
