An important cooperation agreement was signed last Friday in Ho Chi Min City (Socialist Republic of Vietnam) between the University of Insubria and the University of Economics and Finance (Uef), a highly internationalised university with 20,000 students that sealed Insubria's first agreement with an Italian university.

During the Lombardy Region's mission to Vietnam, which involved a number of Lombardy universities and saw President Attilio Fontana conduct high-level institutional meetings, including one with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chính, Professor Giorgio Maria Zamperetti, the rector's delegate for internationalisation, and the rector of UEF, signed an agreement that envisages exchanges of professors and researchers for seminars, lecture cycles and research activities, as well as student mobility for teaching and training activities.

President Attilio Fontana, Lombardy Region Undersecretary for International Relations Raffaele Cattaneo, Italian Ambassador to Hanoi Marco Della Seta and Italian Consul General in Ho Chi Min City Enrico Padula attended the signing of the agreement as witnesses of honour.

«I am happy to add this new piece - said Professor Zamperetti – to Insubria's increasingly developed international network, which this year has brought us to first place in the Censis classification on the internationalisation of Lombard universities of our size. Faced with the strong demand for higher education in Vietnam, we have been able to build a network in this country that is rewarding us in terms of mobility. Alongside this is the recent achievement, in partnership with AlmaLaurea, of European Union funding for an important capacity-building project on Vietnamese ethnic minorities».

«Lombardy - continued President Fontana – in addition to its economic supremacy, is also one of the country's leading cultural engines, with its 13 universities. With this important agreement, the University of Insubria confirms its increasingly marked international vocation, aimed at meeting challenges that strengthen the Lombardy university system and its global network of knowledge and know-how».

The territory's pride at the signing of the agreement was also expressed by Undersecretary Cattaneo: «A strong and clear signal – explained the Region's undersecretary – that shows how the University of Insubria is a reference point of absolute international standing. It was an honour for me, as a Varese native, to be witness and guarantor of an agreement that I am sure will produce important effects. The path started here today will be the focus of my attention in order to achieve common goals that will produce positive effects on both fronts».

«This agreement – concluded Ambassador Della Seta and Consul General Padula – represents a strengthening of the already intense cooperation between the Italian university system and the Vietnamese one, a reality that is rapidly evolving and where higher education is seen as a key to the consolidation of economic development. It opens up new spaces for cooperation in research, teaching, and for the knowledge of the Italian university system and the attraction of Vietnamese students».
