Training 2 is a mandatory training program for the students during the 4th year (15 CFU).
It is performed, as Training 1, in Internal Medicine ward and General Surgery ward.
The students learn how to :
• Become self-sufficient in collecting the clinical history e doing the complete physical examination of the patients
• Develop clinical reasoning: starting from signs and symptoms and taking into account the informations from clinical history and physical examination, make diagnostic hypotheses and plan correct laboratory and instrumental tests in order to reach the diagnosis
• Improve ability to build an empathetic and positive relationship with patients and their relatives

During Training 2, the student will be required to:
• Autonomously gather the patient’s clinical history
• Autonomously visit the patient, carrying out a complete physical examination
• Make and discuss with his tutor diagnostic hypotheses, plan the right laboratory and instrumental tests to reach the right diagnosis

The reference textbooks are those recommended for the Clinical Methods course and for Internal Medicine and for Surgery courses.

Training 2 includes:
• Three weeks of attendance in an Internal Medicine ward
• Three weeks of attendance in a General Surgery ward.
Training shifts are pre-agreed and organized in order to alternate weeks of training with weeks of lessons, avoiding any overlap between these two activities.
Attendance is mandatory and includes presence in the ward from Monday to Saturday for 8 hours a day. Upon arrival in the ward, each student will be assigned to a tutor identified by the Director of the ward. The tutor will follow the student during the entire period of attendance. The wards involved in this training are parts of hospitals of University of Insubria.

At the end of each training period, the student must provide the administrative office with the documents confirming ward attendance, signed by the tutor, the aims form, signed by the tutor and the ward director , and the form where the student has to report, anonymously, his opinion about the training.
