CHIMICA ANALITICA DELL'ATMOSFERA
Basic knowledge of chemistry and in particular of analytical and environmental chemistry.
The student will address analytical issues related to the monitoring of the environmental impact of chemical processes in the atmosphere, highly dynamic system and planetary anthropic impact vehicle.
1)Introduction to atmospheric chemistry: - chemical-physical characteristics of the atmosphere; -bio-geo-chemical cycles in the atmosphere; -atmospheric oxygen reactions; -reactions of atmospheric nitrogen; -carbon dioxide-atmospheric; -photochemical smog.
2.1) measures in the field of atmospheric composition.
2.2) infrared absorption spectroscopy-trace gas analysis-in situ measures-measures "remote"-applications: CH2O, CH4 measures, measures in the "Polar Vortex".
2.3) UV-Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy Visible (DOAS) principles of DOAS applications.
2.4) fluorescence Methods-basic elements of fluorescence measurements-application: the hydroxyl radical, nitrogen oxides, halogenated compounds determinations.
2.5) Mass Spectrometry for the analysis of atmospheric trace gases and aerosols-Atmospheric pressure ionisation-chemical ionisation mass spectrometer (API-CIMS)-use of CIMS for anailisi radicals (OH)-Online aerosol mass spectrometry-Particle sizing methods-Ablation techniques.
2.6) chromatographic methods-gas chromatography – HPLC.
Laboratory: analysis of particulate samples (IC + SEM-EDAX).
Frontal lectures + Labs.
The examination of the knowledge acquired will take place through a final test only in oral form. The test will be divided into several levels:
1) acquisition of knowledge related to the topics covered in the course program;
2) ability to interconnect knowledge gained in different chapters of the program;
3) ability to apply the acquired knowledge to simple examples of real situation.
