PHYSICS 2

Degree course:
Corso di First cycle degree in MATHEMATICS
Academic year when starting the degree:
2018/2019
Year:
2
Academic year in which the course will be held:
2019/2020
Course type:
Supplementary compulsory subjects
Credits:
6
Period:
First Semester
Standard lectures hours:
48
Detail of lecture’s hours:
Lesson (48 hours)
Requirements:

The students must have passed the Physics I examination. In addition basic knowledge of calculus are required: functions, derivatives, integrals and vectors.

Final Examination:
Orale

The exam consists of a written test and an oral interview. The aim of the paper is to verify the student's ability to solve electromagnetism problems in the form of tests, and the achievement of a score greater than or equal to 16/30 is a necessary condition for admission to the oral exam. The oral test consists of 2 or 3 questions aimed at verifying the theoretical knowledge acquired by the student on different topics of the course. The questions will be predominantly theoretical and will have the purpose of establishing an understanding of the general laws of electromagnetism on the part of the student together with his/her ability to use the mathematical tools acquired during the course.

Assessment:
Voto Finale

The main goal of the course is to provide the students with a basic knowledge of the fundaments of electromagnetism.

I will try to develop the students' learning skills by having them perform a series of exercises in the order of increasing difficulty, also with the aim of deepening some topics of the course (the exercises will be provided through the e-learning platform). These exercises will then be corrected by the teacher during the lessons.

1. Electrostatic force and electrostatic field (4 hours)
2. Electrical work and electrostatic potential (6 hours)
3. The law of Gauss (4 hours)
4. Conductors, dielectrics, electrostatic energy (6 hours)
5. Electric current (4 hours)
6. Magnetic field and magnetic force (4 hours)
7. Magnetic field sources, Ampère's law, magnetic properties of matter (6 hours)
8. Time-varying electric and magnetic fields (4 hours)
9. Electric oscillations and alternating currents (4 hours)
10. Electromagnetic waves (6 hours)
