It's necessary to know the main facts and events of Roman history. In order to do it, we suggest AA.VV., Nuove questioni di Roma antica, Mlano 1969, 926 ss
The final examination will be an oral examination, based on three questions and moving from a general topic towards a peculiar one, by increasing the degree of specificity. It will concern Roman history (first and second question) and history of ancient Como (third question). The examination aims to underline the student's skill in appreciating Roman history and historical method, and offers the opportunity to verify the degree of application of general guidelines of Roman history to rhe local experience. The evaluation will be expressed in thirtieths.
The course aims to offer a diachronic perspective of Roman history, from its origins to the fall of Roman empire,focusing social, economic and military aspects. On the other hand, the course wants to increase the specific attainments required to a touristic operator, whose field of professional work will be disclosed in a city and a region rich of museums, roman ruins and archaeological evidence. Finally, the goal is to combine the knowledge of roman history and historical method with the real opportunity to find a job in touristic and archaeological cicle.

The second part of the course points out the Roman history of Como, focusing archaeological, urbanistic, artistic, social and economic issues, with special attention to 1)Roma city of Como, from its foundation to the cesarian colonization 2)Law, economy and society in Roman Como during the Empire and the Plinian age.

The course will take 55 hours of frontal lessons. Guided tours will take place to the Roman section of the Museum of Como, the baths and the roman reliefs in the city.
