Biography

Dr. Imperatori qualified as Medical Doctor at the University of Pavia School of Medicine in 1994. After spending part of his professional training at the European Institute of Oncology, Milano (September 1995-May 1996), in the year 2000 he completed his graduate work in General Surgery at the University of Insubria, Varese.

Dr. Imperatori's specific clinical interests include surgical infections, detection and treatment of early lung cancer, general thoracic surgery, pleural mesothelioma and minimally invasive surgery such as video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).

Dr. Imperatori has been actively involved in the development of several research projects. These include: treatment with high-dose immunoglobulins in severely septic patients; early postoperative internal nutrition in gastrointestinal cancer patients; a lung cancer screening program in the Province of Varese, Italy, named Progetto PRE.DI.CA.; translational research for the identification of target therapy for lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma.

He cumulatively spent one year at the University Hospitals of Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool, Great Britain, in an Honorary Research Post, during 2000-2001 carrying out comparative research on lung cancer epidemiology and treatment in Teesside (UK) and the Province of Varese (Italy).

He is currently a research fellow in General Surgery at the School of Medicine at the University of Insubria in Varese, where he teaches academic courses in three graduate schools (General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Respiratory Diseases), and three specific Courses for physiotherapists, radiologic technicians, and clinical laboratorists.
