- An Active member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS).

Dr. Ferrarese has presented papers in national and international congresses, and has directed internal courses for continuous medical education.
 

Research interests

Author/Coauthor of university textbooks, indexed papers and proceedings.

Main research areas are: myocardial damage related to different revascukarization strategies; endoscopic saphenous vein harvesting; effects of different cardioplegic solutions; animal models and isolated heart model (Langendorff apparatus); video-assisted minimally invasive mitral surgery; stentless aortic valve and aortic conduit; postoperative atrial fibrillation: mechanisms and predictive factors; inflammation process and markers in extracorporeal circulation techniques: detection and prevention.

Teaching experience and appointments

Dr. Ferrarese is teaching Cardiac Surgery in the
- Degree Course for Physiopathology and Cardiovascular perfusion technicians;
- Degree for Physiotherapist

He is also teaching Haemodynamics and Electrophysiology to Residents in Cardiac Surgery, University of Insubria.
He is Secretary of the Postgraduate School of Cardiac Surgery, directed by Prof. Andrea Sala, and member of the University of Insubria Ethics Committee for animal experimentation.

Dr. Sandro Ferrarese has directly performed more than 1000 cardiac operations (coronary bypass, aortic and mitral valve operation, repair and replacement, ascending aorta operations, dissections and aneurysms).

Main clinical interests are:
- mitral valve repair;
- minimally invasive cardiac surgery
- minimally invasive and video-assisted mitral surgery;
- arrhythmia surgery;
- aortic valve sparing operations and surgery of ascending aorta
- new devices in aortic dissection surgery;
- stentless aortic valve and conduit;
- leucocyte filters in extracorporeal circulation techniques;
- genetic profile in cardiac surgery;
