Biography |
Lorenzo Dominioni was born
in Como, Italy, on Aug. 27, 1949. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine
at the University of Pavia, Italy in 1974. Board of general surgery,
University of Pavia in 1980. Academic career started as researcher in surgery at the University of Pavia (from 1980 to 1993). Appointed associate professor of surgery at the University of Pavia and at the University of Insubria in Varese, from 1993 to 2000. Appointed professor of Surgery at the University of Insubria in 2000. Current position: Professor of Surgery, University of Insubria, Varese, Italy. Director of the Unit of General and Thoracic Surgery of the Department of Surgical Sciences of the University of Insubria, Varese. Director of the Center for Thoracic Surgery, University of Insubria, Ospedale di Circolo di Varese, Italy. Surgical Practice: General surgery and thoracic surgery (over 6,000 cases operated. Over 600 cases operated by video-assisted-thoracoscopy or by video-assisted-laparoscopy). Publications: Author / co-author of more than 350 scientific papers in the field of thoracic surgery and lung cancer, surgical infections, artificial nutrition surgical oncology. Membership in Professional Societies: American College of Surgeons, International Association for Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), Surgical Infection Society - Europe (President 1998-99), International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, International Surgical Group. Member of European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS). |

early diagnosis and screening for lung cancer; management and VATS
resection of small indeterminate lung nodules Surgical Infections: identification of the high risk surgical patient; antibiotic prophylaxis and treatment; high-dose immunoglobulins in severely septic patients. Surgical Nutrition: nutrition and infection in surgical patients; Immediate postoperative enteral nutrition. Surgical Oncology: high risk cancer patients; detection and treatment of early lung cancer; lung cancer screening; malignant pleural mesothelioma. Mininvasive surgery: advances in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery; localization and treatment of small lung nodules. Translational Research: applied to lung cancer and to pleural mesothelioma. |
